The Role

We are seeking an experienced Design Innovation Manager to lead design-led innovation programs, research initiatives, concept development, experimentation, and cross-functional transformation.

The ideal candidate will connect user needs, market insights, emerging technologies, business objectives, and creative design to develop new concepts and improve existing products, services, processes, and experiences.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement design innovation strategies aligned with business objectives.
  • Lead design-led innovation programs from research and opportunity identification through concept development, prototyping, testing, and implementation.
  • Identify emerging customer needs, market trends, technologies, materials, and business models that could create new opportunities.
  • Conduct user research, customer interviews, observations, workshops, surveys, and market analysis.
  • Translate customer insights and research findings into clearly defined opportunities and innovation challenges.
  • Develop customer personas, journey maps, experience maps, opportunity areas, and design principles.
  • Facilitate design-thinking workshops, ideation sessions, innovation sprints, and cross-functional working sessions.
  • Generate and evaluate new product, service, experience, and business concepts.
  • Lead rapid prototyping and experimentation to validate concepts before significant investment.
  • Develop prototypes, mockups, pilots, demonstrations, and proof-of-concept solutions.
  • Define hypotheses, success criteria, testing plans, and measurable outcomes for innovation initiatives.
  • Coordinate user testing and gather qualitative and quantitative feedback.
  • Analyze test results and translate insights into design improvements and strategic recommendations.
  • Work closely with Product, Engineering, Technology, Marketing, Operations, Commercial, and Research teams.
  • Build cross-functional teams around strategic innovation opportunities.
  • Manage innovation projects, roadmaps, timelines, budgets, resources, dependencies, and risks.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies including AI, automation, digital platforms, advanced analytics, immersive experiences, and other relevant technologies.
  • Assess the practical business value and feasibility of emerging technologies for potential application.
  • Develop business cases for innovation initiatives, including investment requirements, expected benefits, risks, and ROI.
  • Evaluate concepts against customer desirability, technical feasibility, operational viability, and commercial potential.
  • Establish frameworks for prioritizing innovation opportunities and allocating resources.
  • Maintain an innovation pipeline covering ideas, experiments, prototypes, pilots, and implementation opportunities.
  • Develop governance processes for innovation programs, experimentation, approvals, and investment decisions.
  • Partner with senior leadership to define innovation priorities and strategic opportunities.
  • Present concepts, research findings, prototypes, business cases, and recommendations to senior stakeholders.
  • Coordinate external design agencies, research firms, technology providers, consultants, universities, and innovation partners.
  • Manage innovation challenges, competitions, hackathons, design workshops, and collaborative programs where appropriate.
  • Develop relationships with technology companies, startups, design communities, research institutions, and other innovation ecosystems.
  • Identify opportunities for partnerships, co-development, licensing, and external innovation.
  • Promote user-centered design and evidence-based decision-making across the organization.
  • Establish design standards, innovation principles, research practices, and experimentation guidelines.
  • Ensure accessibility, inclusivity, sustainability, cultural relevance, and ethical considerations are incorporated into innovation initiatives.
  • Protect confidential ideas, research findings, intellectual property, and commercially sensitive information.
  • Identify opportunities to improve internal processes through design-led problem solving.
  • Measure the business impact of innovation initiatives and track benefits after implementation.
  • Conduct post-project reviews to identify lessons learned and improve future innovation programs.
  • Develop innovation dashboards and management reports covering pipeline activity, experiments, investment, outcomes, and business impact.
  • Build organizational capability through training, coaching, design-thinking education, and innovation best practices.
  • Promote a culture of curiosity, experimentation, collaboration, customer empathy, and continuous improvement.

Ideal Candidate

The successful candidate should have strong experience in design innovation, service design, product innovation, design strategy, user experience, innovation management, research, or digital transformation, preferably within technology, consumer products, professional services, real estate, construction, retail, hospitality, or other innovation-driven environments.

The candidate should demonstrate:
