The RoleWe are seeking an experienced Power Systems Reliability Manager to lead reliability strategy, asset performance, maintenance optimization, failure prevention, and continuous improvement across power systems and electrical infrastructure.
The ideal candidate will oversee reliability programs covering substations, transformers, switchgear, protection systems, transmission and distribution equipment, generators, electrical networks, control systems, and associated infrastructure. The role will use engineering analysis, condition monitoring, reliability data, root-cause analysis, and predictive maintenance to improve system availability and resilience.
Key Responsibilities- Develop and implement power-system reliability strategies aligned with operational and business objectives.
- Establish reliability standards, procedures, performance targets, and governance frameworks for electrical assets.
- Assess the reliability and criticality of generation, transmission, distribution, and industrial power-system assets.
- Develop asset-criticality rankings based on safety, operational, financial, environmental, and customer impacts.
- Establish reliability-centered maintenance and risk-based maintenance programs.
- Analyze equipment failure history, outage data, maintenance records, and operational performance.
- Identify recurring failures, weak points, failure modes, and systemic reliability risks.
- Lead root-cause analysis and corrective-action programs for major equipment and system failures.
- Develop preventive, predictive, condition-based, and corrective maintenance strategies.
- Optimize maintenance intervals based on asset condition, failure probability, operating environment, and risk.
- Monitor the performance of transformers, circuit breakers, switchgear, generators, protection systems, cables, motors, substations, and other electrical assets.
- Establish condition-monitoring programs for critical power equipment.
- Evaluate transformer oil analysis, thermal monitoring, partial discharge, vibration, infrared inspection, and other diagnostic techniques.
- Coordinate electrical testing, commissioning, inspection, and condition assessments.
- Review protection-system performance, relay settings, coordination studies, and fault records.
- Work with engineering teams to investigate protection-system operations, trips, faults, and abnormal conditions.
- Monitor power-quality issues including voltage deviations, harmonics, flicker, frequency variations, and transient events.
- Analyze network reliability and identify opportunities to improve redundancy, resilience, and system stability.
- Develop contingency plans for equipment failures, network outages, extreme weather, and other operational disruptions.
- Support electrical-system studies covering load flow, short circuit, protection coordination, reliability, and contingency analysis.
- Coordinate reliability assessments for new electrical projects and system modifications.
- Participate in design reviews to ensure new assets meet reliability, maintainability, and lifecycle requirements.
- Establish reliability requirements for equipment specifications, procurement, installation, testing, and commissioning.
- Evaluate equipment suppliers based on reliability, maintainability, lifecycle cost, technical performance, and support capability.
- Work with procurement and engineering teams to establish technical specifications and acceptance criteria.
- Monitor contractor and supplier performance related to equipment reliability and maintenance.
- Coordinate planned outages and maintenance windows to minimize operational and customer impact.
- Develop outage-risk assessments and prioritize maintenance activities based on system criticality.
- Monitor system availability, forced outages, equipment downtime, and restoration performance.
- Establish reliability dashboards and reporting for electrical assets and power networks.
- Track reliability trends and identify areas requiring investment, maintenance, replacement, or redesign.
- Develop lifecycle-management strategies for aging and obsolete electrical assets.
- Support asset replacement, refurbishment, uprating, modernization, and capacity-expansion programs.
- Evaluate the reliability implications of renewable generation, battery storage, distributed energy resources, and electric-vehicle charging infrastructure.
- Assess the impact of variable generation, distributed resources, and new electrical loads on system reliability.
- Support grid modernization and smart-grid initiatives involving sensors, automation, digital substations, and advanced monitoring.
- Evaluate opportunities to use predictive analytics, machine learning, digital twins, and automated diagnostics for reliability improvement.
- Ensure reliability systems and operational technology maintain appropriate cybersecurity and access controls.
- Develop emergency-response procedures for electrical incidents, equipment failures, and critical system disruptions.
- Support incident investigations and ensure corrective actions are properly implemented and verified.
- Maintain technical documentation, asset records, reliability models, failure databases, inspection results, and maintenance histories.
- Ensure reliability activities comply with applicable electrical, safety, regulatory, environmental, and engineering requirements.
- Support internal and external audits, technical reviews, regulatory inspections, and reliability assessments.
- Train engineering, maintenance, and operations teams on reliability practices, failure prevention, and condition monitoring.
- Promote reliability engineering, continuous improvement, Lean, and data-driven maintenance practices.

The successful candidate should have strong experience in power systems reliability, electrical engineering, utility operations, transmission and distribution, power generation, industrial electrical systems, asset management, or reliability engineering, preferably within utilities, energy companies, infrastructure operators, manufacturing, or large industrial environments.
The candidate should demonstrate:
