Job Description

At Rabobank, we're building the next generation of AI-powered experiences for colleagues. Within the Conversational AI & CRM domain, we develop the platform that enables intelligent assistants, enterprise workflows, and AI-driven capabilities across the organization.

As a Senior Backend Engineer, you will design and build the backend platform that connects AI services, enterprise systems, CRM platforms, and business processes in a secure, scalable, and production-ready way. You will play a key role in shaping the architecture, integrations, engineering standards, and operational excellence of a platform that supports multiple AI assistants and business-critical workflows.

What You'll Do

· Design, build, and maintain backend services and APIs using C# and .NET.

· Develop integrations with enterprise systems, cloud services, and AI platforms.

· Design scalable, secure, and resilient cloud-native solutions on Azure.

· Define and implement infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code.

· Build and maintain automated CI/CD pipelines.

· Ensure reliability through testing, monitoring, observability, and operational excellence.

· Participate in architecture discussions and contribute to technical direction.

· Mentor engineers through code reviews, knowledge sharing, and engineering best practices.

· Design and maintain enterprise integration patterns using API gateways and service-to-service communication models.

· Build and support integrations with CRM platforms such as Salesforce, Genesys, and other enterprise applications.

Required Qualifications

· You have a relevant HBO or university degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.

· 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, including significant experience with C# and .NET.

· Experience designing, building, and operating production-grade APIs and distributed systems.

· Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure and cloud-native application development.

· Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Bicep, Terraform, or similar).

· Experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines.

· Strong understanding of software architecture, integration patterns, and system design.

· Strong understanding of authentication, authorization, and secure software development practices.

· Experience working within complex enterprise environments.

Preferred Qualifications

· Experience with Azure Functions and event-driven architectures.

· Experience integrating Azure OpenAI, OpenAI, or other generative AI services.

· Experience with API gateways such as Kong.

· Experience with Azure networking, private endpoints, and enterprise security patterns.

· Experience operating systems in regulated environments with sensitive data.

· Azure certifications such as AZ-204, AZ-104, AZ-400 or AZ-900.

· Experience contributing across the full technology stack.

· Experience integrating with enterprise platforms such as Salesforce, Genesys Cloud, CRM systems, or customer engagement platforms.

· Experience designing and consuming APIs in enterprise environments using API gateway platforms such as Kong.

· Familiarity with API provider/consumer architectures and enterprise integration patterns.

Team & Working Environment

You'll join a multidisciplinary team consisting of Backend Engineers, Business Analysts, Prompt Engineers, and AI specialists working together to deliver AI-powered solutions across Rabobank. We value collaboration, ownership, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement.

We work in a hybrid setup and expect team members to be present at the Utrecht office approximately 1-2 days per week. The remainder of the week can be worked remotely, depending on team and business needs.

As a senior engineer, you'll have significant influence on technical decisions, architectural direction, engineering standards, and the future development of our AI platform.
