This is a hands-on development opportunity with an immediate focus on Python, Django and React, while providing exposure to other programming languages, technologies and solutions as project needs evolve.

If you’re a developer who enjoys solving complex problems, writing secure and maintainable code and learning new technologies, this is an opportunity to apply your development skills in a cyber security environment while continuing to build your technical and security capability.

Key accountabilities

In this role, you will:

  • Develop robust and secure software platforms, with an immediate focus on Python, Django and React while working with other languages and technologies as required.

  • Recommend and contribute to the implementation, customisation, configuration and support of COTS and bespoke platforms.
  • Work with Cyber Security NSW teams and other stakeholders to understand business functions, objectives and requirements, providing technical advice and support where required.
  • Contribute to technical design documentation outlining solution specifications.
  • Support the Operations Directorate by performing code reviews and analysis.
  • Maintain and enhance existing platforms and software.
  • Contribute to software build, release and deployment activities.
  • Support the transition of software solutions into BAU through documentation, knowledge sharing and ongoing assistance.
  • Work collaboratively as part of a small team, with regular verbal and written communication.
  • Uphold secure development and security practices to maintain the security of Cyber Security NSW.

About you

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • 2+ years’ experience working within complex IT environments as a Developer or Junior Developer
  • Product-based software development experience and proficiency in one or more modern programming languages, particularly Python, with Django experience highly desirable.
  • Experience with modern frontend technologies including JavaScript (ES6+), HTML5 and CSS3, with knowledge of frameworks such as React, Angular or Vue.js desirable.
  • A strong approach to writing clean, readable and high-quality code, with consideration for reusability, extensibility, maintainability, scalability and security.
  • An interest in secure software development, with a focus on security by design and security engineering.
  • A demonstrated interest in learning new languages, technologies, approaches and development methods.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to communicate, train and work effectively with non-technical users.
  • The ability to take initiative, manage your own work and contribute effectively within a collaborative team environment.

Essential Requirements

  • Must be an Australian Citizen with an ability to obtain and maintain a Baseline security clearance, and willingness to undergo a criminal history and identity verification and ongoing probity checks as a condition of employment.
