About The Company
Open Universities Australia (OUA) believes quality education should be accessible to everyone. For more than 30 years, we have helped over 400,000 students take their next step, often at important moments in their lives. Our work is guided by a commitment to creating experiences and services that open new opportunities for learners across Australia.
As a not-for-profit organisation, OUA combines meaningful work with a people-first culture. We act for our customers, care for one another, and focus on continuous improvement. Our friendly, curious, and inclusive environment gives people the trust and support to contribute, learn, and grow.
About The Role
As a DevOps Engineer, you’ll help make life easier for the engineers building OUA’s digital products. Product engineering teams are your primary customers. You’ll work with them to understand how they build, test, deploy, and support software, then identify opportunities to reduce friction through automation, self-service tools, and practical guidance.
This is a hands-on engineering role that combines software development with cloud operations. You’ll build platform services, APIs, developer tooling, and automation in TypeScript, while maintaining AWS infrastructure. You’ll take ownership of work from problem discovery and design through implementation and ongoing support, contributing to how software moves from an idea into production.
You’ll also explore AWS capabilities, AI-assisted development, and coding agents, applying them where they can deliver practical improvements to engineering workflows.

- Strong networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP, TLS, routing, subnets, firewalls, and load balancing.
- A security-minded approach to access controls, secrets, dependencies, and the potential ways systems may fail or be misused.
- A DevOps mindset grounded in shared ownership, automation, fast feedback, continuous improvement, and production support.
