The Director, Pharmacy Product Development leads product development execution from concept through business case, build, launch, and post-launch performance across LucyRx’s clinical and non-clinical product portfolios. This role owns delivery of the approved roadmap, including release sequencing, capacity planning, stage-gate discipline, launch readiness, and post-launch performance review.
Reporting to the VP, Product & Clinical Strategy, this role translates clinical strategy, formulary direction, utilization management concepts, care model design, and non-clinical product opportunities into buildable requirements and operating plans. The Director manages two product managers and partners closely with Technology, Pharmacy Operations, Compliance, Client Success, Clinical, and Analytics to deliver scalable, compliant, market-relevant solutions.
Reporting to the SVP, Clinical Strategy & Product, this position plays a critical role in bringing new products from concept through launch and optimization, while supporting continuous improvement of existing offerings. This role partners close with Clinical, Operations, Technology, Sales, and Account Management to ensure solutions are scalable, market-relevant, and deliver measurable value to clients and members.
Role and Responsibilities
Product Development & Execution
- Own delivery of the approved product roadmap, including release sequencing, capacity planning, and trade-off recommendations across clinical and non-clinical product work.
- Lead product development from concept through business case, build, launch, and post-launch performance review.
- Translate formulary strategy, utilization management strategy, care model design, and non-clinical product opportunities into clear, buildable requirements with Technology and Operations.
- Run stage-gate and go/no-go reviews with Clinical, Pharmacy Operations, Compliance, Technology, and Client Success.
- Ensure product launches meet operational, compliance, client readiness, and reporting requirements before release.
Product Management & Lifecycle Ownership
- Manage the product lifecycle for assigned clinical and non-clinical products, including discovery, requirements, implementation, enhancement, and sunset recommendations.
- Set standards for product discovery, requirements documentation, backlog readiness, launch planning, and post-launch measurement.
- Own post-launch performance reviews and recommend whether products should be iterated, scaled, paused, or sunset.
- Partner with Analytics to define adoption, revenue, savings, operational, and clinical outcome measures before launch.
- Maintain clear documentation of product scope, assumptions, risks, dependencies, and decision history.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Serve as the product delivery partner to Technology, Pharmacy Operations, Compliance, Client Success, Clinical, Analytics, Sales, and Underwriting.
- Coordinate cross-functional execution plans, dependencies, risks, and readiness activities for each product launch.
- Partner with Technology on build sequencing, release planning, scope trade-offs, and issue resolution.
- Partner with Pharmacy Operations and Compliance to ensure product workflows are operationally sound and compliant.
- Partner with Client Success and Sales to support product positioning, launch training, implementation guidance, and client feedback loops.
Market & Industry Awareness
- Monitor market trends, client needs, competitive offerings, and regulatory changes that may affect clinical and non-clinical product development.
- Translate market and client feedback into product discovery inputs and roadmap recommendations for the VP, Product & Clinical Strategy.
- Identify product gaps, operational constraints, and emerging opportunities that may require new build, enhancement, vendor partnership, or sunset decisions.
Leadership & Influence
- Manage and develop two product managers: one focused on clinical products and one focused on non-clinical product solutions.
- Set expectations for product management discipline, requirements quality, launch readiness, stakeholder communication, and post-launch accountability.
- Lead cross-functional teams through product discovery, build, launch, and optimization without relying solely on formal authority.
- Communicate product status, risks, trade-offs, and recommendations clearly to the VP, Product & Clinical Strategy and senior leadership.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- Experience managing product managers or cross-functional delivery teams preferred.
- Experience with healthcare, PBM, pharmacy operations, clinical programs, patient access, or related healthcare product portfolios.
- Demonstrated experience building business cases, launch plans, operating models, and post-launch performance reviews.
- Experience working with Technology teams using product requirements, user stories, release planning, or agile delivery methods.
- Strong understanding of compliance, operational readiness, and stakeholder governance in a regulated healthcare environment.
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree such as MBA, PharmD, MPH, or related degree preferred.
Preferences
- PBM, managed care, pharmacy, specialty pharmacy, or healthcare technology experience.
- Experience launching clinical programs, utilization management tools, formulary-related workflows, patient access solutions, or member-facing healthcare products.
- Experience supporting both clinical and non-clinical product portfolios.
- Advanced degree such as MBA, PharmD, MPH, or related field.
Physical Requirements
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. This is a largely sedentary role; however, some standing, walking, bending, and reaching may be required. Regularly operates in an office or home office setting which involves utilizing a computer, mouse, keyboard, and occasionally operates other standard office equipment, such as printer, copier, and phone. Travel may be required by either car or airplane, or a combination of multiple modes of transportation.
