Responsibilities / Position overview

We are looking for a Director, Scientific Sales & Delivery to serve as the strategic interface between clients and our Research team. This is a hybrid commercial–scientific leadership role, combining epidemiological expertise with hands-on business development accountability across the full RWE project lifecycle — from earliest opportunity qualification through to study completion.

You will carry a personal annual sales pipeline target, lead proposal development, and ensure all outputs are methodologically rigorous, scientifically defensible, and aligned to client objectives. A consultative selling mindset and the credibility to engage peer-to-peer with senior pharmaceutical stakeholders are essential.

What You Will Do

Commercial & Opportunity Development

  • Hold a personal annual sales and pipeline target, documented in your SIP
  • Partner with Business Development to scope, qualify, and advance new RWE opportunities
  • Lead proposal authorship and scientific governance across all BD lifecycle stages, ensuring methodological rigour and alignment with international guidelines (e.g., ENCePP, GVP)
  • Handle objections, manage competitive positioning, and negotiate scope, assumptions, and commercial terms without compromising scientific quality

Scientific Delivery & Data Leadership

  • Personally conduct hands-on feasibility analysis of RWD datasets — validating population size, variable availability, and bias risks — before committing to timelines or budgets
  • Design and deliver studies using contemporary outcomes research methods: external control arms, surrogate endpoint validation, NMA, propensity score matching, target trial emulation, and more
  • Lead senior-level scientific discussions with clients autonomously, managing scope creep and setting clear expectations throughout

Delivery Oversight & Relationship Management

  • Keep cross-functional scientific teams on track, on time, and on budget
  • Build and maintain trusted senior client relationships across the full study lifecycle to generate repeat business and identify cross-sell and up-sell opportunities
  • Contribute to thought leadership activities that reinforce Lumanity/PHARMO's position as a centre of RWE expertise

Qualifications

What You Will Bring

  • Advanced degree in epidemiology, pharmacoepidemiology, public health, or a related quantitative/clinical field (PhD, MD, PharmD, or MSc with substantial experience)
  • 8+ years designing and delivering observational studies in RWD/RWE, with demonstrated epidemiological credibility
  • Proven hands-on experience building cohorts and endpoints from raw/structured RWD (e.g., EHR, claims, registries); programming proficiency in SQL, R, SAS, or Python within the last 3 years
  • Track record of authoring protocols and SAPs, leading methodological decisions, and ensuring scientific defensibility through to final deliverables
  • Solid commercial acumen and proven experience contributing to sales and business development in RWE or HEOR
  • Strong written communication skills, particularly in methods-heavy proposals and technical documentation

Preferred

  • Experience with CPRD or equivalent UK/Nordic/claims-based RWD sources
  • Established network in Medical Affairs, HEOR, or Epidemiology with evidence of trusted-advisor status
  • Prior hybrid commercial–scientific leadership experience
  • Multilingual; Dutch preferred

Benefits

We offer our employees a comprehensive benefits package that focuses on what matters to you – health and well-being, personal finances, professional development, and a healthy work/life balance:

  • Competitive salary
  • Attractive pension scheme
  • Positive working atmosphere with committed colleagues and an enthusiastic management team.
  • Flexible working hours and the possibility to work partly from home
  • a role in which you can combine your programming knowledge, passion for data, commercial craftsmanship and social involvement
