Here’s what all the hype is about…
Premier Nutrition Company (PNC) is one of the fastest-growing companies in the proactive wellness space, with leading protein shake and powder brands Premier Protein and Dymatize. We are part of BellRing Brands (NYSE: BRBR).
Our success starts with our purpose—Changing Lives with Good Energy—and a culture built around trust, autonomy, connection, and belonging. We give people the support to grow, the freedom to make good decisions, and the opportunity to do meaningful work alongside remarkable colleagues.
Our culture has been recognized through nine consecutive Great Place to Work certifications as of 2025. Employees also enjoy year-round half-day Fridays, free lunches and snacks, dogs in the office, belonging celebrations, volunteer days, company-matched charitable donations, generous paid family leave, bonus eligibility for all positions, and a 6% 401(k) match after one year.
We believe in a Challenger Mindset: take smart risks, choose action over analysis paralysis, stay hungry for better ways of working, and build for the future. If that sounds like you, read on.
The role you’re interested in…
As a Market Development Manager (MDM), you’ll own a territory and grow PNC’s business at the store level. This is a highly field-based sales role where you’ll build relationships with retailers and distributor partners, identify opportunities to expand distribution and visibility, and make sure plans become in-store results.
You’ll spend much of your time in the market calling on chain and independent accounts, opening new business, selling displays and secondary placements, and working alongside distributor teams. You won’t just sell the plan—you’ll help make sure it happens in store.
The work environment…
This is a field-based role performed primarily across an assigned market rather than at a desk. The work involves frequent local travel between retail locations and distributor facilities, changing daily routes, and regular interaction with store teams, distributor representatives, and other external partners.
The MDM is expected to participate directly in market execution. This includes riding along with distributor representatives on delivery or sales routes; entering and moving throughout retail, backroom, warehouse, and distributor environments; handling product cases and point-of-sale materials; stocking or rotating product; and assembling, filling, maintaining, or adjusting retail displays. The role may require frequent standing and walking, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, carrying, and repeated movement throughout the workday.
Team members must be able to safely perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation, and follow applicable retailer, distributor, vehicle, and workplace safety requirements. Working conditions and physical demands may vary by account, route, and market.
This position will be based remotely and each remote employee comes to our Emeryville, California headquarters a few times per year for various meetings, such as annual departmental team building and planning meetings, annual plan kick-off all-hands meeting, quarterly state-of-the-company updates, or other large cross-functional meetings. The expected pay scale for this role is $60k to $80k, which may vary based on relevant experience, qualifications, geographic area (if applicable), and internal equity for the role.
You’re excited about this opportunity because your time will be filled with…
Driving territory growth & in-store execution: 50% of your time
  • Own an assigned territory and deliver against sales, distribution, display, and execution goals.
  • Call on chain and independent retailers, open new accounts, close distribution gaps, and identify incremental growth opportunities.
  • Sell new SKUs, displays, and secondary placements, then follow through to ensure execution happens in store.
  • Use data and KPIs to prioritize opportunities and focus time where it can have the greatest impact.
  • Take a hands-on approach to execution, including working with product and helping build, fill, and maintain displays when needed.
Partnering with & developing distributor teams: 20% of your time
  • Build strong working relationships with distributor sales representatives, supervisors, and partners across the DSD network.
  • Participate in route ride-alongs, work-withs, distributor sales meetings, trainings, crew drives, and market blitzes.
  • Help distributor teams understand PNC brands, priorities, new items, and promotional activity.
  • Identify execution gaps and collaborate with distributor partners to improve follow-through and results.
  • Managing distributor partnerships & territory performance: 30% of your time
  • Own day-to-day distributor relationships and maintain accountability against company priorities and KPIs.
  • Monitor territory performance and adjust plans based on opportunities and challenges in the market.
  • Follow up on orders, deliveries, and execution opportunities so commitments translate into retail results.
  • Maintain territory planning, reporting, scorecard updates, expenses, and other administrative responsibilities.
  • Collaborate with the Regional Sales Manager and counterparts across markets while independently managing the assigned territory.
What are we looking for?
  • We’re looking for someone energized by being in the market, building relationships, and seeing the direct impact of their work.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Relevant experience in field sales, DSD, beverage/CPG, distributor sales, merchandising, supplier sales, or a comparable environment with direct retail execution.
  • Demonstrated ability to call on retail accounts, sell incremental opportunities, and manage priorities across a territory.
  • Experience working with distributor teams or successfully navigating a distributor-led environment.
  • Ability to operate independently, manage a fast-moving field schedule, use data and KPIs to prioritize work, and consistently follow through.
  • Experience in beverage, convenience, DSD/distribution, or another fast-paced environment where you have been responsible for both selling and store-level execution is especially helpful.
The 5 capabilities or mindsets most relevant to this role:
  1. Challenger Mindset—take smart risks, choose action, and stay hungry to get after it.
  2. Play to win—pursue ambitious goals and have fun along the way.
  3. Inspire and influence—build trusting, win-win relationships with retailers and distributor partners.
  4. Be a builder—create smarter, simpler, and faster ways to grow the market.
  5. Challenge ideas respectfully—share your perspective with conviction while ensuring others feel heard.
You will thrive here and may just do the best work of your life if…
  • You like being in the field, meeting customers, and turning opportunities into visible results.
  • You 're comfortable working independently and adjusting your day as market priorities change.
  • You build genuine relationships while also holding yourself and partners accountable.
  • You are willing to roll up your sleeves and participate directly in store-level execution.
  • You know when good enough is good enough—and when the details must be flawless.
  • You are natural, open, practical, and motivated to get meaningful work done.
This may not be your ideal next career move if you like…
…a primarily desk-based account management role.
…highly predictable days, fixed routes, or limited travel within a market.
…selling a plan without participating in the execution.
…a lot of structure, command-and-control management, or a big-company cog-in-the-machine environment.
…workplaces where priorities and approaches rarely change.
Here’s the deal with our not-so-standard, um…standard interview process because we know you are the curious type, which is why you’re still reading this…
  • Quick 30 min phone chat with a high energy member of our Talent Acquisition team to do a quick overview of your background and answer any burning questions you have
  • Team interviews are kept to a minimum to foster a more efficient, candidate-friendly process (too many interviewers yields little value and drags out the process for you—and who wants that, right?):
    • A short series of in-person or video interviews in a 1:1 setting; these are usually with the hiring manager, one or two other team members, and a person from another team to get broader perspectives (note: we don’t do panel interviews because they don’t give interviewers a chance to ask you unique questions, and we assign interviewers different roles so we’re probing different capabilities)
  • A case study or job task to simulate what you’d actually be doing in the role might be included (since your job is not actually to be interviewed for a living, why is that the thing companies rely on so much?) Yes, there will be a small panel for this one so you don’t have to do it more than once, and yes, they might ask you some kind yet probing questions at the end after the raucous applause stops.
  • Once your interview concludes, the team will meet for an in-depth consultative process to ensure we are hiring the right person for the right job. Interviewers must come in with a strong yes or no vote beforehand to avoid groupthink with supporting reasons. The collective thoughts on your candidacy will be discussed in an environment of safety to challenge ideas respectfully, debate. and be open to all important qualifications of the candidates. A trained, disinterested bias blocker will be present to help mitigate bias so the team can make a sound hiring decision. The moment of truth arrives when the hiring manager makes the big decision. If you nailed the interviews and the case study was brilliant, guess what? The offer is all yours! And the ball is in your court. Will you accept? We sure hope so, because this place is the real deal, and don’t just believe us—just ask the 91% of our people who said this is a great place to work in our most recent employee survey.

We strive to create an equitable and inclusive environment that contributes to the success of our organization. Premier Nutrition provides equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants without regard to race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, national origin, age, disability, genetic information, marital status, covered veteran status, or any other category protected under applicable federal, state, provincial, and local laws.
If you’re thinking, “I’m not sure I meet 100% of these requirements,” we still encourage you to apply. If you embody a growth mindset, see challenges as opportunities to develop, and find innovative ways to get meaningful work done, you may be our kind of candidate.
