About us
Gridcog is a global SaaS start-up of energy nerds on a mission to accelerate investment in the clean energy transition. We build project modelling software that captures the physical and commercial detail of energy projects, front-of-meter and behind the meter, so our users can make intelligent energy decisions. Our clients have modelled over 18k projects in over 40 markets globally.
Gridcog was founded in Australia, and Australia remains one of our most important markets. We work with some of the most active developers, IPPs, retailers and energy companies in the country, including AGL, Flow Power, Vestas, European Energy, ACEN Renewables, EDL, Mint Renewables, Perth Airport, PwC, and ABB.
Who we're looking for
We're looking for an Energy Analyst to join our team in Melbourne. You'll have real responsibility early and a clear impact on Gridcog's success in Australia and the wider Asia-Pacific region.
You bring a solid foundational understanding of the energy sector (likely through an advanced degree) and/or direct professional experience, and you're highly motivated to drive real-world impact. You pick things up quickly, you're happy to get stuck into problems you haven't seen before, and you crack on without waiting to be told. We value drive and curiosity.
Customers are the heart of this role. You'll own a set of customer relationships from early on, helping them get set up in Gridcog, model their projects well and get real value from the platform.
What you'll do
Customers (the core of the role)
- Own relationships with a group of Australian and Asia-Pacific customers, from onboarding through to day-to-day use, with support from the team
- Help customers model their solar, wind, battery and hybrid projects and answer their technical questions about the platform and the NEM and WEM
- Keep an eye on how customers use Gridcog and step in early when they could be getting more out of it
- Help maintain our inputs and assumptions Library of Australian and Asia-Pacific market prices, network tariffs and project cost assumptions
Sales and marketing
- Run product demos with prospects alongside our sales team
- Answer technical questions from prospective customers
- Write blogs, market commentary and short videos on what's happening in Australian energy markets
- Represent Gridcog at industry events
Product
- Share what you hear from customers with our product team and suggest improvements
- Test new features against real customer use cases
What it's like working at Gridcog
You’ll join an established team in Melbourne, working closely with colleagues in modelling, product and sales who will help you get up to speed quickly. We’re still a start-up, though, so we move fast, try new things and don’t always have a process for everything. We like people who take initiative and have a go, and you’ll have room to take on more responsibility as you grow into the role.
You’ll also work with colleagues in Berlin, London and Madrid, which gives you exposure to energy markets and customers around the world.
To be successful in this role you will have
- A degree in energy, engineering, economics or a similar field, or previous experience in the energy sector
- A strong interest in the energy transition and a lot of motivation
- Some understanding of the NEM and/or WEM and the commercial options for technologies like solar PV, wind and battery storage, from study, internships or work
- Strong analytical skills and hands-on experience with Excel, Python or similar
- Clear communication and a genuine interest in helping customers succeed
- Comfort with ambiguity and a willingness to try things and learn as you go
- Fluent English
- Full working rights in Australia
We'd also love it if you have
- Detailed knowledge of the NEM or WEM, such as FCAS, the WEM Reserve Capacity Mechanism, network tariffs, PPAs, LGCs or the Electricity Services Entry Mechanism
- Some familiarity with the New Zealand electricity market, the Japanese power market (JEPX) or other markets in Asia
- An internship or role at a developer, retailer, network business, consultancy or trader
- Energy project modelling experience, from your thesis or work
- Competitive remuneration package aligned with experience and skills
- A Melbourne office with flexible working arrangements
- A high-performing team that values innovation and creative problem-solving
- Exposure to markets beyond Australia through our international footprint and global teams
- The chance to build your own profile in the energy sector through content shared on Gridcog's channels
- Support for ongoing professional and personal development
- An annual all-company retreat, with recent locations including Bali and Bintan Island
Diversity and inclusion
We are committed to building a diverse and inclusive team at Gridcog. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds, as we believe an inclusive environment and diversity of perspective lead to innovation and success.
