Show job description

Lead and build the cloud platform behind the world’s largest B2B music technology company.

Songtradr is the world's largest B2B music technology company, providing end-to-end solutions across music licensing, rights management and direct-to-fan experiences. Through businesses including MassiveMusic and Bandcamp, Songtradr empowers music creators and enables global brands to connect with audiences through the power of music.

Behind this is a global platform operating at significant scale. Our systems process billions of requests every month, and every one of them runs on infrastructure our Platform Engineering team designs, builds and operates.

Now we’re growing our engineering organisation in Finland. Our Helsinki office is already home to 18 people – engineers, several engineering directors and our VP of Product Engineering – and it’s getting livelier by the week. We still have a few planned hires to make this year. In this role, we’re looking for a hands-on Engineering Director to join us in Helsinki. You’ll be part of the growing local team day to day, while leading our established Platform Engineering team based in the UK, the US and Australia.

The role

The Platform Engineering team owns the cloud infrastructure, application security and platform services across all of Songtradr's platforms. Everything our product teams ship – from Bandcamp checkouts to music licensing tools – depends on what this team builds and runs.

You'll lead a team of five engineers – three in the UK, one in the US and one in Australia – from our Helsinki office. Working across time zones from London to Los Angeles to Sydney is part of everyday life, so clear communication and good async habits matter. This role combines technical leadership with hands-on work. We expect you to be comfortable doing the kind of work the team does day to day, not just directing it.

You'll work closely with the rest of Songtradr's engineering leadership, several of whom are based in Helsinki. Together you'll set technical direction, shape how our engineering teams work and help shape the Helsinki organisation as it grows.

Your work will include

  • Leading platform engineering hands-on, building alongside the team

  • Owning the cloud platform's vision, strategy and roadmap

  • Setting technical direction and ways of working with product and engineering leaders

  • Turning product requirements into engineering deliverables

  • Leading continuous delivery with cloud-native tooling and automation

  • Keeping GCP and AWS infrastructure fast, scalable and reliable

  • Owning application security, security policies and compliance

  • Running monitoring, incident response and disaster recovery

  • Choosing and managing cloud providers, vendors and tools

  • Delivering on time, with a focus on cost-efficiency

  • Hiring, coaching and developing your team

  • Building a safe, inclusive and collaborative engineering culture

What we're looking for

Ideally, you'll bring:

  • 8+ years of experience in Site Reliability, Systems, Software or DevOps Engineering

  • Experience building and running high-transaction-volume systems in production, including platforms for application performance and security (e.g. Fastly)

  • Deep, hands-on experience with GCP and AWS architectures, including containers and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes)

  • Strong experience with CI/CD concepts and tools

  • Solid understanding of monitoring, logging and alerting (e.g. Datadog, Grafana)

  • Good knowledge of cloud security best practices, such as least privilege, IAM and security scanning

  • Experience with microservices, distributed systems and database reliability (SQL/NoSQL)

  • Knowledge of networking concepts (TCP/IP, DNS, load balancing, firewalls)

You don't need to know our exact stack. What matters most is that you're a strong engineer who still loves building things hands-on with the team.

Why Songtradr, why now

You'll own the foundation every Songtradr product runs on – a platform that needs to stay fast, secure and reliable at a scale of billions of requests every month.

At the same time, our Helsinki Product Engineering team is growing fast, with 18 people already on board. Joining now means you'll still have a real say in ways of working, as part of a growing local team.

Our office is in Vallila, and we work in a flexible hybrid model where the team comes together a few days each week.

What you'll get

  • Salary: €8500-9500 per month, depending on experience

  • Equity: RSUs – real upside as the company continues to grow

  • Flexible hybrid working from our Helsinki office in Vallila

  • A leadership role where you stay deeply hands-on technically

Our values

  • Lead with Music. Our compass and our passion.

  • Perform as One Band. United by purpose and trust.

  • Own Your Voice. Listen deeply, speak honestly.
