Engineering Manager, Trust & Safety

Information about the position

The Trust & Safety domain protects our members from scams, counterfeits, fraud and harmful content. The domain has 8 cross-functional teams.

This role leads the Moderation Platform team. When content is flagged by our detection systems or reported by members but can't be actioned automatically, it goes to people for review. Hundreds of moderators use the platform every day to review these items, messages and accounts, and to decide members' appeals.

The full cross-functional team is around 14 people today and will grow to about 20. You'll manage around 10 engineers directly, work with a strong tech lead, and own the health of the whole cross-functional team.

In this position, you’ll

• Drive delivery across teams and functions, leading planning and roadmap execution while keeping reporting clear and stakeholders aligned
• Lead a team of up to 10 engineers building the Moderation Platform used by hundreds of trust and safety specialists to review reported and flagged content and handle member appeals
• Grow engineers through regular feedback, coaching, performance management, and personal development
• Own cross-functional team health, engagement, and performance across not only engineering, but also product, data science, analytics, and design
• Partner closely with Product, Design, and Analytics to align technical execution with product priorities, support experimentation and measurement, and deliver high-quality solutions at scale
• Set and uphold high engineering standards for resilience, stability, scalability, developer experience, and quality
• Work with other Engineering leaders to drive continuous improvement and raise the bar across the broader organisation

About you

• Proven track record of leading and growing software engineering teams within fast paced, high scale product environments
• Strong technical foundation with previous hands on engineering experience, enabling you to guide technical architecture, evaluate trade offs, and champion engineering excellence
• Demonstrated success leading cross functional delivery in close partnership with Product, Data Science, and Analytics specialists
• Solid understanding of distributed backend architectures, high scale data processing, and production machine learning integrations such as prioritisation, ranking, or scoring systems
• Empathetic people leadership style with a focus on growth, coaching, constructive feedback, and overall team health
• Strong product mindset with the ability to connect technical initiatives to member safety and business outcomes
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English

• Experience within Trust & Safety, content moderation, fraud mitigation, or high volume marketplace environments
• Experience designing and scaling operational platforms, workflow engines, or internal tooling
