EXECUTIVE VICE PRESIDENT – CMC, QUALITY & OPERATIONS

Boehunter Executive Search and Selection has been exclusively engaged to identify an accomplished pharmaceutical executive for a highly influential leadership appointment within an innovative, successful, globally focused biotechnology organisation.

Reporting directly to the CEO and working closely with the Executive Management Team and Board, this position will provide strategic and operational leadership across CMC, Quality Assurance and Procurement, with responsibility for maximising the value of the company’s pharmaceutical assets while maintaining quality and regulatory excellence.

This is a broad executive mandate spanning the full product lifecycle; from pre-clinical and clinical development through manufacturing readiness, regulatory submission, product launch, commercialisation and lifecycle management.

The Opportunity

The successful executive will lead and provide strategic oversight across:

• Global CMC development strategy and execution across the product lifecycle
• Pharmaceutical API and drug product development, manufacturing, scale-up, validation and technology transfer
• Manufacturing preparedness for clinical development and commercial launch
• Quality Assurance, QMS, GMP compliance and inspection readiness
• Procurement, sourcing, supply chain and COGs management
• External CMOs, vendors, consultants and strategic development partners
• CMC and Quality risk mitigation and associated IP opportunities
• Functional budgets, planning, resources and operational priorities
• Leadership and development of high-performing specialist teams
• Executive and Board-level reporting and strategic input

A particularly important aspect of the appointment will be ensuring that CMC, Quality and supply capabilities evolve appropriately as assets progress through development and towards commercialisation.

About You

We are seeking an experienced senior pharmaceutical or biotechnology leader with a successful track record across CMC development, manufacturing, Quality and product launch and commercialisation.

You will ideally bring:

• A degree in science, engineering, pharmacy or a related discipline
• Significant senior leadership experience within pharmaceutical or biotechnology environments
• Demonstrated success leading CMC programs and teams from development through registration, validation and commercial launch
• Strong knowledge of GMP, Quality systems, API and drug product development and manufacturing
• Experience managing external manufacturing organisations, vendors and strategic partners
• Strong understanding of the regulatory requirements associated with pharmaceutical development and commercialisation
• Experience contributing to cross-functional pharmaceutical development strategy and planning
• Commercial judgement combined with strong scientific and technical capability
• Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated cross-functional collaboration and relationship-building
• Highly developed leadership, communication, negotiation and stakeholder management skills
• The credibility to engage effectively with executive leadership, Boards and external partners

Experience leading within a smaller, commercially focused biotechnology or pharmaceutical organisation will be particularly valuable, as will previous involvement in US product registration, launch and commercialisation.

Exposure to rare diseases and/or global development programs would be advantageous but is not essential.
