Expressive Speech Annotator (English)

About the Role:
As an Expressive Speech Annotator, you will prepare high-quality labeled data for emotionally expressive voice and speech AI models. Most of the job is listening to audio, transcribing and tagging speech, and interpreting scripts and dialogue for tone, emotion and intent. You will work closely with project managers, AI engineers, and voice and language experts. The goal is to keep annotation accurate and consistent and to improve our tools and processes over time.
Engagement Terms:
This is a project-based contract role, not a fixed or full-time position.- Pay is hourly, and you are paid only for hours you actually work on assigned tasks.- Work is assigned when projects are available. We don't guarantee a minimum number of hours or projects, and the volume will change from month to month.- This role suits people who want flexible, on-demand work alongside other commitments.
Responsibilities:
Listen to audio recordings, transcribe spoken content, and tag speech segments using defined guidelines and taxonomies.
Check and correct automated (ASR) transcriptions for accuracy.
Tag scripts, dialogues and literary excerpts for tone, style, emotion, genre and intent.
Keep annotations consistent and contextually accurate across large datasets.
Take part in evaluation surveys that rate the quality of AI-generated voices.
Help refine expressive text used to train text-to-speech (TTS) models.
Write structured feedback reports on annotation quality, guidelines and tools.-
Join review cycles with voice and language experts, and meet productivity and quality targets.
Who We Are Looking For:
You can qualify for this role in one of two ways:
Path 1: Experienced Annotators: You have hands-on experience in speech or voice AI annotation, for example audio transcription, speech segmentation, emotion or intent labeling, or ASR/TTS data work. No specific degree is required.
Path 2: English Literature & Linguistics GraduatesYou don't have annotation experience yet, but you hold a completed Bachelor's degree in English Literature or Linguistics. We'll train you on our tools and guidelines.
Nice to have: An interest in film, drama and character performance; experience in QA or content moderation; curiosity about AI and Voice AI.
