Exciting Opportunity for Freelance Quality Controllers (Japanese)!
The Quality Controller is responsible for performing post-linguistic and formatting quality control. This role ensures that target documents are complete, accurately reflect the source content and structure, and meet applicable quality, formatting, workflow, and project-specific requirements. The Quality Controller is not expected to perform a full linguistic review or rewrite translated content. However, the role requires sufficient proficiency in both the source and target languages to understand the document, assess key areas of the translation, recognize obvious discrepancies, and escalate potential linguistic issues when specialist review is required.
Working after the completion of the linguistic review and formatting stages, the Quality Controller conducts focused layout and language-accuracy checks to identify missing or untranslated content, formatting discrepancies, incorrectly implemented tracked changes, and errors in high-risk elements such as numbers, symbols, units, study information, and inclusion or exclusion criteria. The role contributes to improved Right First Time performance, reduced client rejections, and the prevention of quality issues in client-facing and patient-facing content.
Essential Duties:
Verify that no paragraphs are missing or untranslated.
Ensure the target file formatting accurately reflects the source.
Verify that all tracked changes from the source are correctly implemented in the target (additions and deletions).
Perform language accuracy checks on critical elements, including:
- Inclusion and exclusion criteria
- Numbers, symbols, and units (dosage, time units)
- Drug names, sponsor names, protocol and study titles
- Proper names (PI and other relevant names)Review headers, footers, tables of contents, and links.
Detect formatting issues, missing content, and errors in key areas of the text.
Confirm that applicable client-specific, sponsor-specific, language-specific, and project-specific instructions have been followed within the assigned scope.
Contribute feedback on recurring errors, workflow gaps, and improvement opportunities to support continuous improvement of translation quality and operational processes.
What We’re Looking For:
Experience in multilingual quality control or a related field.
Ability to read and understand both English and Japanese.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word, including Review and Track Changes functions.
Strong attention to detail and ability to identify high-risk errors.
Excellent communication skills and ability to work independently.
Candidates must be comfortable reviewing medical and technical content.
Experience with regulated content and Informed Consent Forms, Investigator Brochures and Protocols is an advantage.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in translation quality control and linguistic services.
Knowledge of quality assurance processes and standards.
Familiarity with different language scripts and alphabets is a plus
