Freelance Shopify Developer (Technical SEO)

About the role
Our client is looking for an experienced freelance Shopify developer to resolve technical SEO issues across our custom theme and backend setup. You'll work hands-on in the code alongside our SEO team, turning their audit findings into clean, shipped fixes.

What you'll do

• Audit and fix technical SEO issues in existing Liquid templates, sections, and theme code
• Implement structured data (JSON-LD), canonical tags, meta handling, hreflang, and clean URL/redirect logic
• Improve site speed and Core Web Vitals (script bloat, image handling, app overhead, render-blocking assets)
• Fix crawl and indexation problems: duplicate collection/product URLs, pagination, faceted navigation, robots.txt.liquid, sitemaps
• Clean up legacy code, unused apps, and theme debt without breaking live functionality
• Collaborate with the SEO team, translating recommendations into scoped tickets and documenting what changes

What we're looking for

• Proven experience as a Shopify developer, with deep Liquid, HTML/CSS, and JavaScript skills
• Strong technical SEO knowledge, ideally having implemented fixes rather than just recommending them
• Prior work cleaning up or rehabilitating an existing custom Shopify site
• Familiarity with Search Console, Screaming Frog, Lighthouse/PageSpeed, and GA4
• Comfort with Git, theme version control, and safe staging/testing workflows
• Clear communicator who can work with non-developers and hit deadlines independently

Nice to have

• Experience with Shopify Plus, headless setups, or migrations
• Experience with Shopify's theme app extensions, metafields, and the Storefront/Admin APIs
