Frontend Lead Engineer

About the company:

Our client runs one of Europe’s largest company bike leasing businesses. Employers offer their people a lease bike, most of them electric, as part of their benefits package, and the client handles the leasing, the dealer network and the service. More than 600,000 employees at around 65,000 companies ride through the programme, supported by 8,000 partner dealers.

The business is part of a Dutch family-owned mobility group, and one of Europe’s largest automotive financial services groups holds a significant minority stake. It operates across the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, France and Switzerland, and is growing across Europe and the USA.

The role:

You’ll own the end-to-end frontend and solution architecture for the company’s leasing portal. That covers assessing the current system landscape, shaping a scalable target architecture, designing API contracts and setting the standards for an accessible design system. You’ll be the main technical sparring partner for the product teams, mentor engineers and explain architectural trade-offs clearly to business stakeholders.

This is a hands-on architecture role. You’ll validate decisions in code and build proofs of concept yourself, so it isn’t for architects who have stepped away from writing code.

What you’ll be doing:

• Assess the existing systems and design sustainable, scalable architecture, then prove it out in code
• Define standards for frontend architecture, component libraries, state management and WCAG-compliant design systems
• Design, secure and maintain API contracts (REST, OpenAPI, GraphQL) across distributed systems
• Set the bar for automated testing, code quality, containerised deployments and CI/CD
• Guide and mentor engineers across teams and align them with business stakeholders

What you’ll need:

• Several years in software or solution architecture, with a strong frontend or fullstack engineering background
• Deep TypeScript/JavaScript and at least one of React, Angular or Vue, including state management
• Hands-on API design (REST, OpenAPI, GraphQL), distributed systems, microservices, Docker and cloud environments
• Strong WCAG and accessibility knowledge, CI/CD, automated testing strategies and well-documented architecture decisions
• The ability to explain technical decisions to non-technical stakeholders
• Fluent English (German or Dutch is a plus)
• Nice to have: e-commerce, leasing, fintech or multi-brand platforms, enterprise design systems, modular monoliths or micro-frontends, AI-assisted development (Claude Code, Copilot, Codex), experience in international cross-functional organisations

Location & logistics:

Remote-first. You can be based in Germany, the Netherlands, France, Austria, Belgium or Sweden, with occasional travel for team gatherings.
