Our purpose

Planday from Xero is a leading digital solution that uncomplicates everyday scheduling and workforce management by making it easier for businesses and shift workers around the world to communicate, collaborate, and get work done.

Powered by a community of local industry experts, Planday provides a best-in-class digital platform that is easy to use, accurate, secure, and compliant with local needs and standards. From payroll and accounting to POS and reporting, its open API and tech ecosystem is scalable to fit shifting business needs and to build an engaged, flexible workforce.

Founded in 2004, Planday is headquartered in Copenhagen, Denmark, with offices in the UK, Norway and Germany, and supports over 400,000 users across Europe and the US. Planday was acquired by Xero in 2021.

How you'll make an impact

The Monetization team owns how customers buy and keep buying Planday: the checkout experience, subscription management, payments, and the systems behind them (our subscription and billing services, plus the integration layer to Zuora, Salesforce and Intercom). When a customer upgrades a plan, adds a product, or gets an invoice, that is our code path.

As a Full Stack Engineer at IC2, you will build and maintain features across that path, front end and back end, with support from engineers on the team. You will start with well-scoped pieces of customer-facing work and grow into owning features end to end.

You will join a cross-functional team of full stack engineers, a QA engineer, a UX researcher and a product manager. You will be paired with an engineer as your mentor from day one, and you will be expected to ask questions early and often: in a domain where mistakes are visible on customer invoices.

You will use AI coding tools every day, as the whole team does. We care less about how fast you can produce code and more about whether you can tell good output from plausible-looking output, and whether you can explain and defend what you ship.

What you'll do

  • Create software: Build features across the stack: C# / .NET services and React + TypeScript front ends (We have one service in Java). Contribute to solution design discussions and take part in code reviews, both giving and receiving feedback.

  • Work with AI tools, with judgement: Use AI coding assistants as part of normal delivery. Read, test and question what they produce. Never merge code you cannot explain line by line.

  • Test software: Write and automate tests alongside your changes. Treat quality as part of the work rather than a later stage, with support from the team's QA engineer.

  • Resolve issues: Help triage and fix development and production issues in the subscription, checkout and payments flows. Learn to trace a problem across services and third-party platforms, and communicate impact in business terms.

  • Engineering standards : Learn and apply Planday's Engineering Standards. Take part in the Backend and Frontend Guilds to build a shared standard with engineers outside the team.

  • Understand the domain : Build working knowledge of how plans, entitlements, invoices and payments fit together. In monetization, the business rules are the hard part; the code is often the easy part.

  • Continuous improvement : Keep growing your knowledge of the technologies we use, and bring back what you learn to the team.

  • Deliver in production : Ship your own changes through our CI/CD pipelines and watch how they behave once live.

Success looks like

  • First three months: you ship small customer-facing changes to production with review support, you can explain the plan-change and invoicing paths in your own words, and you ask for help before you are stuck for a day.

  • First twelve months: you own well-scoped features end to end across front end and back end, you catch your own errors before review does, you are a dependable second pair of eyes in code review, and you can explain the customer and revenue impact of what you build.

  • Quality and pace: You deliver at a predictable, sustainable pace and flag risks and blockers early rather than at the deadline.

  • Learning: You actively learn from your peers, act on feedback, and turn each review comment into something you no longer need told twice.

  • Judgment with AI: You use AI tools to move faster without lowering the bar: you verify output, you confidently spot wrong suggestions, and you own everything you merge.

  • Communication: You keep your team informed, write clearly in tickets and pull requests, and give Product accurate information so scope and timing decisions can be made.

What you'll bring with you

Critical competencies

  • Growth mindset: You treat skill as something built, not fixed, and you go looking for feedback.

  • Verification habit: You check things: you read the error, you run the test, you look at the data before you conclude.

  • Problem-solving: You can break a problem down and describe your reasoning out loud, including the parts you are unsure about.

  • Team player: You contribute to a collaborative team and are comfortable working closely with QA, UX and Product.

  • Communication and time management: You are clear about progress, blockers and what you need.

  • Care for the customer: You understand that billing and checkout bugs cost customers money and trust.

Experience we would like to see

We expect a junior engineer here to have roughly 1 to 2 years of professional experience, or equivalent evidence of building and shipping real software (internships, open-source, freelance).

  • Working knowledge of one backend language, ideally C# / .NET

  • Working knowledge of JavaScript or TypeScript, and a component framework such as React

  • Comfortable with SQL and relational data

  • Comfortable with Git, pull requests and code review

  • Familiar with consuming and building REST APIs

  • Some exposure to automated testing

  • Hands-on use of AI coding tools (for example Claude, Codex, Copilot or Cursor) and an opinion about where they help and where they do not

  • Nice to have: exposure to CI/CD, cloud platforms (we run on Azure), Redis, message-based integration between systems, or billing and subscription domains

You do not need to tick every line. If you can show us that you build things, verify your own work, and learn fast, we want to talk to you.

How we use AI in this hiring process

We use AI tools in our daily work, so we do not pretend otherwise when hiring.

  • The technical interview: it runs in two halves. First you read and review code with your AI tools closed, so we can see how you read. Then you open your usual tools and build, as you would on the job. We will tell you exactly when the switch happens.

  • What we assess: your reasoning, your ability to explain and defend code (including code that a tool wrote), and your judgement about when to trust output. Using AI is not a problem; being unable to explain your work is.

At Planday, we offer you

  • Benefits like pension, health insurance, inclusive support for new parents and generous vacation

  • On top of your annual base salary, you are offered to be part of an Employee Share Plan

  • Growth and progression opportunities – we want you to grow with us

  • Flexible remote work

  • Strong social culture with lots of team and company activities

  • Meaningful work – everyone at Planday contributes to improving the lives of shift workers around the globe

Finally, our offices are not just workplaces (although they are pretty nice and well-located, we have to say!). Plandayers are open and welcoming and at Planday, everyone has the freedom and support to show their true self at work.

At Planday, we firmly believe that diversity and inclusion are the cornerstones of innovation and a vibrant workplace culture. As an equal opportunity employer, we strive to create an equitable experience for all candidates throughout the process. Please let us know if you need any reasonable adjustments during the application or interview process.
