About Fairlo

The story of Fairlo began when our founders, Jimmy and Shamon, saw first-hand how unfair and predatory lending practices can trap people in cycles of debt. Their mother had been misled by a large bank, and instead of being offered a lifeline, she was pushed further into financial difficulties.

That injustice sparked an idea: to build a company that reimagines credit, rooted in transparency, flexibility, and respect. That company became Fairlo.

Since launching in 2018, we've helped tens of thousands of people access fairer, more flexible credit. Today, we have around 50,000 active customers, an outstanding Trustpilot rating, and a team of passionate people across Stockholm, Crete, and the UK.

We've built something we're incredibly proud of. But what comes next is even more exciting.

The next chapter. And why you should be part of it.

Fairlo is becoming a bank. And we're rethinking how we build technology along the way. We're entering a new phase where technology will play an even bigger role in everything we do. New products, new possibilities, more complex challenges, and an opportunity to build financial services that genuinely make people's lives better. At the same time, our AI transformation is already under way. There's a plan, and people across Fairlo are working on it every day as we become an AI-native organisation.

We want to challenge old assumptions about how software gets built. Experiment with new tools and ways of working. Move from idea to impact faster. And create an engineering culture where curiosity, creativity, and great judgment matter more than ever. We're looking for a Fullstack Engineer who wants to join that work and help shape where it goes next.

You'll join our Stockholm team, working closely with CTO, Product, Design, and our engineering colleagues in Crete. We're a small organisation with big ambitions, which means you'll be close to the decisions, the challenges, and the impact of what you build.

This isn't a role where you'll simply pick up tickets and write code. We want you to understand the problems we're solving, challenge how we approach them, and help turn ambitious ideas into great products. You'll have the freedom to experiment, the responsibility to own your work, and the opportunity to influence both our technology and how we work with it.

What you'll do

As a Fullstack Engineer at Fairlo, you'll work across the entire product experience, from the interfaces our customers interact with to the services and systems powering them.

You'll be part of a cross-functional crew with real ownership, working together to solve meaningful problems and deliver value to our customers.

Here's what that looks like:

  • Build products that matter. Design and develop intuitive customer experiences, scalable backend services, APIs, and integrations that make financial services simpler, smarter, and fairer.

  • Own problems, not just code. Be involved from the first idea to the finished product. Understand the customer's needs, contribute to the solution, build it, ship it, and learn from the results.

  • Build on the AI work already under way. Explore how AI can fundamentally improve the way we build software, from prototyping and development to testing, debugging, and delivery. Experiment, challenge existing practices, and help turn new possibilities into everyday ways of working.

  • Make great technical decisions. Balance speed, simplicity, scalability, and security as we build technology that needs to perform today and grow with us tomorrow.

  • Work close to the business. Collaborate directly with Product, Design, and colleagues across Fairlo. Your ideas and perspectives will matter, and you'll have the opportunity to influence what we build and why.

  • Raise the bar together. Share knowledge, challenge assumptions, bring fresh ideas, and help create an engineering culture where talented people continuously learn and get better.

Who you are

We're looking for someone who loves building things, gets excited about solving real problems, and is genuinely curious about what's next in technology. You're comfortable moving between frontend and backend, enjoy taking ownership, and care just as much about the customer experience as you do about the code behind it. And while you're a strong engineer today, you're even more interested in what you could become tomorrow.

We believe you'll thrive at Fairlo if you:

  • Have solid professional experience in fullstack development, with strong skills across both frontend and backend.

  • Are comfortable with modern frontend technologies such as React and TypeScript, as well as backend frameworks such as Node.js, Express.js, NestJS, .NET, or similar.

  • Have experience building APIs, working with relational databases, and developing scalable, cloud-based applications, preferably using AWS.

  • Are already exploring how AI can make you a better engineer, and are excited to push beyond traditional development practices.

  • Care about building great products, not just great code. You enjoy understanding the bigger picture and finding smart, simple solutions to complex problems.

  • Take initiative, challenge ideas constructively, and feel comfortable making decisions and taking responsibility.

  • Thrive in collaborative environments where people trust each other, share knowledge, and move quickly without unnecessary hierarchy.

  • Communicate confidently in English, our shared working language.

Nice to have

  • Experience with microservices, automated testing, and CI/CD.

  • Experience building AI-powered features or working with AI coding agents and modern AI-assisted development workflows.

  • Experience working in fintech, financial services, or other regulated environments.

  • Contributions to open-source projects or personal projects that show your curiosity and passion for technology.

We don't expect you to tick every box. What matters most is that you're a great engineer with the curiosity, ambition, and mindset to keep evolving.

Why Fairlo?

There are plenty of places where you can write great code. We want Fairlo to be a place where you can do much more than that.

A rare moment to join. We're transitioning from fintech to bank, creating an exciting mix of startup energy, ambitious product development, and new technical challenges.

A real voice in what we build. We're small enough that your ideas can make a difference immediately, but ambitious enough that the problems you'll solve are anything but small.

Join an AI transformation with momentum. You'll join Fairlo's AI transformation, already under way, with a plan and a team behind it. You'll have colleagues to build with and plenty of room to shape where it goes next.

Talented people, without the egos. You'll work with smart, passionate colleagues who care about what they do, support each other, and believe that great things happen when people are trusted.

A mission worth getting behind. We're building financial services that put people first. The technology you create will have a real impact on real lives.

You'll also get:

  • To be part of building a financial world you'd like to live in.

  • Competitive salary

  • Pension (ITP level)

  • Health insurance

  • Health & wellness allowance

  • 30 days vacation per year plus "klämdagar" off

  • Possibility to use the Fairlo Cretan house for both work and vacation stay

  • Possibility to bike leasing

  • Hybrid working model with a top-location office in Stockholm

  • Great equipment and the tools you need to do your best work

  • Opportunities to learn, grow, and experiment with new technologies

  • A culture that genuinely values wellbeing, flexibility, and having fun together

Come build what's next.

We're building a bank. Our AI transformation is already under way. And we're looking for people who want to help shape what comes next. If you're the kind of engineer who gets excited about new possibilities, loves turning ideas into reality, and wants to work somewhere your contribution genuinely matters, we'd love to hear from you.
