General Counsel

Role Description The General Counsel will provide strategic and operational legal support to Lal PathLabs Foundation, ensuring that all programs, partnerships, and initiatives comply with applicable laws and regulations. This part-time, remote role involves drafting, reviewing, and negotiating contracts and MOUs with partners such as NGOs, government agencies, and service providers, as well as developing policies that support ethical and compliant operations. The General Counsel will oversee legal risk management, advise on regulatory requirements related to CSR activities, and support governance frameworks and board-related matters. Day-to-day tasks include offering clear legal advice to leadership, monitoring changes in laws affecting non-profit and CSR activities, and guiding the Foundation on data privacy, labor and employment considerations, and stakeholder rights. The role also supports capacity building by creating guidelines, templates, and training materials to promote legal awareness across the organization.

Qualifications

• Strong expertise in handling a broad range of legal issues relevant to CSR, non-profit organizations, and healthcare-related initiatives.
• Demonstrated experience in labor and employment law, including compliance with employment regulations for staff, volunteers, and contractors.
• Proficiency in providing clear, practical legal advice to cross-functional teams and senior leadership in mission-driven organizations.
• Knowledge of data privacy and protection laws, with the ability to design and review policies for handling sensitive health and personal information.
• Experience with corporate governance, including board governance, policies, compliance frameworks, and stakeholder rights.
• Law degree (LLB or equivalent) and active bar membership or eligibility, with several years of post-qualification experience in relevant domains.
• Prior exposure to CSR, non-profit, public health, or social impact sectors is highly beneficial.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong analytical abilities, attention to detail, and the capacity to work independently in a remote, part-time setting.
