POSITION SUMMARY:

The GL Accountant will support the Director of Accounting in general accounting functions. The key focus of the role will be general ledger account activity, support of the fixed asset system, and month-end close activities. The GL Accountant may also support Washington State Business & Occupation (B&O) tax filing and personal property tax filing with the Washington State Department of Revenue. Success in this position requires the ability to work in a team environment, collaborate across multiple areas of the organization, prioritize daily activities, and understand accounting issues in a rapidly growing company.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES & PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES:

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  • Develop and maintain the fixed asset system, including preparing and recording entries to set up new fixed assets and depreciate new and existing assets. Ensure fixed assets are depreciated in accordance with GAAP and company policy.
  • Assist in preparing reports and providing accounting-related information and analysis to departmental managers and the management team. Create timely and accurate financial information and reports, as directed, on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis.
  • Maintain the full cycle of the inventory system, including documenting the inventory process, performing a monthly physical count at the company warehouse, and reconciling the physical count to the general ledger and subledger. Also reconcile the small amount of inventory held at a local vendor between the vendor’s records and the subledger to ensure no issues.
  • Perform monthly general ledger account reconciliations, including understanding the activity in each ledger account, weekly bank account reconciliations, maintaining and amortizing prepaids based on their terms, and completing month-end close activities within two days. Drive process improvements to reduce the close cycle.
  • As needed, learn to prepare sales details by type of revenue and state, and support the filing of the monthly WA B&O tax, the WA B&O annual reconciliation, and the WA personal property tax.
  • Assist with external financial audits and interim reviews. Support the Director of Accounting with monthly calculations of Business Development Funds at month-end, manufacturer report analysis, and external relationships as needed.

WHAT YOU BRING:

Experience & Skills

  • 3+ years of relevant accounting experience (required); experience in a high-growth environment preferred
  • Knowledge of GAAP principles (required)
  • Experience assisting with closing the books, with key involvement in the monthly, quarterly, and annual closing process (required)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and strong general computer skills
  • Previous experience with Great Plains is a plus
  • Flexibility to work additional hours as needed
  • Analytical, technical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to foster teamwork and encourage collaboration between department and functional teams through process, communication, and systems

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in accounting

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

  • Hybrid role with regular in-office work required; the specific schedule is determined by business needs
  • This is a full-time role Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
