Company Description LeanGoogs AI is building the intelligence infrastructure for a world where AI can understand and support people in every location and context. The organization combines AI, data, and human expertise to improve accuracy, relevance, and reliability across diverse languages, cultures, and real-world environments. LeanGoogs AI is focused on creating AI systems that truly understand global perspectives, with particular attention to underrepresented regions and communities. By harnessing local intelligence to power global AI, the team aims to close language and cultural gaps in technology access. Volunteers and contributors play a key role in shaping inclusive AI that works for everyone.
Role Description The Global South Language Contributor is a remote, volunteer role focused on improving AI performance in languages spoken across the Global South. Day-to-day tasks include providing high-quality language data, reviewing and correcting AI-generated text, and offering cultural and contextual feedback to ensure outputs are locally relevant and respectful. Contributors may assist in creating example sentences, annotating datasets, and evaluating model responses for clarity, accuracy, and cultural nuance. The role also involves collaborating with project coordinators, sharing insights about local language usage, and helping identify gaps or biases in the AI’s understanding of specific regions. This position is ideal for individuals who want to influence how AI represents and serves their communities without committing to a full-time schedule.

  • Ability to provide clear written examples, explanations of local expressions, and culturally relevant context for language data and AI outputs.
  • Attention to detail and consistency when reviewing, annotating, or correcting text, with a focus on accuracy and neutrality.
  • Basic digital literacy, including comfort working online, using collaborative tools, and following written guidelines in a remote environment.
  • Interest in AI, language technology, or linguistics, and motivation to improve representation of diverse communities in global AI systems.
  • Demonstrated reliability in meeting agreed timelines and communicating proactively with coordinators or team members.
  • Prior experience in translation, localization, teaching, or language-related community work is beneficial but not required.
