About us
At Healthdirect Australia, we help Australians access trusted health information, advice and care through our national virtual health services.
We are a government-owned, not-for-profit organisation. Our services are fast and easy to access through helplines, video calls, apps and websites, and support Australians at every stage of life, wherever they live and at any time of day or night.
About the opportunity
We are seeking a GP registrar for our RACGP Extended Skills Registrar position. This 6-month, part-time (0.5 FTE) training role gives GP registrars advanced experience in clinical governance, quality improvement and digital health innovation within a national virtual health service.
Reporting to the Medical Director, you will contribute to the clinical governance activities that keep our services safe and high quality. You will take part in audits, clinical digital product development and policy writing and gain practical insight into how virtual healthcare is delivered at scale. You will work closely with the Clinical Governance team and service operations teams to see how clinical safety is maintained across our virtual services.
The position is an excellent pathway for registrars interested in developing leadership skills in healthcare management and digital health, while building competencies across all domains of general practice in a cutting-edge telehealth environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Take part in regular clinical audits of Virtual GP service consultations under supervision, applying audit methodology and contributing to quality improvement
- Contribute clinical expertise to software development and ensure our services are ones that consumers and clinicians love to use
- Review and analyse clinical incidents and complaints to identify patterns and improvement opportunities
- Contribute to the monitoring and quality improvement of AI clinical decision support systems used within Healthdirect services
- Contribute your clinical perspective to the weekly Clinical Governance Safety and Quality meetings
- Contribute clinical expertise to policy development and review, and support new guidelines for virtual care based on emerging evidence and best practice
- Present clinical audit findings and quality improvement recommendations to relevant committees
- Work collaboratively with the Clinical Governance team to support adherence to the Clinical Governance framework
About You
You have a genuine interest in digital health, health leadership and clinical governance. You are a strong communicator and team player who adapts well to change, builds collaborative relationships, and is keen to learn how clinical safety and quality are maintained in a virtual care setting.
What you’ll bring to the role
- Undertaking specialist GP training with the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) under the Australian General Practice Training (AGPT) Program, and eligible to undertake an Extended Skills term
- Current unrestricted general registration as a medical practitioner with AHPRA, in good standing without sanctions or restrictions
- Strong interest in digital health, health leadership and management, and clinical governance
- A good understanding of the organisation of health services in Australia
- Effective teamwork and communication skills
