About the role:

Aurora is seeking an Associate to join our India Grid Research team in Gurugram. This is a quantitative and client-facing role at the intersection of power systems, electricity markets and investment analysis.

You will play a central role in the continued rollout and development of Aurora’s India Grid product, helping developers, investors and lenders understand how transmission build-out, grid congestion, connectivity and curtailment affect renewable projects and investment decisions.

You will take ownership of analytical workstreams and the delivery of Grid coverage across individual Indian states and regions. This will include analysing transmission infrastructure and connection queues, developing and quality-assuring forward-looking grid and curtailment analysis, and translating complex technical outputs into clear commercial insights.

We are looking for someone who combines four core strengths:
  • Engineering and grid understanding – a strong understanding of power systems, transmission networks and the physical drivers of congestion and curtailment.
  • Quantitative modelling – the ability to work confidently with complex datasets and modelling frameworks to develop robust forward-looking analysis.
  • Market understanding – an understanding of how generation, demand, storage, transmission and electricity-market dynamics interact, and what these changes mean commercially.
  • Communication – the ability to turn sophisticated technical analysis into clear, compelling insights for both technical and non-technical audiences.
You will work closely with Aurora’s India Research, Grid modelling and Software teams and have the opportunity to develop deep expertise in India’s rapidly evolving power system.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the rollout and ongoing development of Aurora’s Grid analysis across new and/or existing Indian regions, taking responsibility for analytical delivery, quality assurance and ongoing updates.
  • Analyse India’s transmission system, including network build-out, connectivity queues, transmission constraints, project commissioning timelines and grid headroom.
  • Develop and quality-assure quantitative analysis of congestion and renewable curtailment, assessing how these evolve as generation, storage, demand and transmission capacity change.
  • Work closely with Aurora’s Modelling team to translate engineering, power-system and electricity-market assumptions into robust forward-looking analysis.
  • Combine grid modelling with electricity-market fundamentals to understand the commercial implications of transmission constraints and curtailment for renewable and storage assets.
  • Analyse large and complex datasets using tools such as Python, SQL and Excel, improving analytical processes and identifying opportunities for automation.
  • Translate complex modelling results into clear, commercially relevant conclusions, explaining what is happening, why it is happening and what it means for developers, investors and lenders.
  • Communicate Aurora’s analysis confidently through client meetings, subscriber calls, webinars, reports and presentations, adapting technical detail to different audiences.
  • Work collaboratively across Research, Modelling and Software teams, clearly communicating assumptions, analytical issues and development priorities.
  • Support and review the work of Analysts and interns contributing to infrastructure tracking, data collection and validation.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Required attributes:
  • 3-5 years relevant professional experience in power systems, electricity markets, transmission, renewable energy, energy modelling or energy consulting.
  • A strong university degree, ideally in electrical engineering, power systems, energy systems, economics, mathematics, physics or another quantitative discipline.
  • Strong understanding of power systems and grid fundamentals, including the interaction between generation, demand, transmission and system constraints.
  • Strong quantitative and modelling capability, with experience working with complex datasets, models and analytical outputs. Experience using Python, SQL, advanced Excel or power-system modelling software.
  • Good understanding of electricity-market fundamentals, with the ability to connect physical grid developments with their implications for renewable and storage projects.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical analysis into clear, concise and commercially relevant insights.
  • Confidence communicating with both technical and non-technical audiences, including clients and senior stakeholders.
  • Ability to structure a clear analytical argument, identify the key drivers behind modelling results and communicate the “so what”, rather than simply reporting outputs.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently own complex analytical workstreams and deliver high-quality outputs to deadlines.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to analytical quality and robust quality assurance.
  • Self-starting, intellectually curious and comfortable working collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams.

Desirable attributes:
  • Familiarity with the Indian power sector, including renewable development, transmission infrastructure and electricity-market arrangements.
  • Experience working for a transmission or network organisation, renewable developer, power-market consultancy, utility, system operator, IPP or energy analytics firm.
  • Understanding of the commercial considerations facing renewable developers, IPPs, lenders and infrastructure investors.
  • Experience working with commercial power system software (PSS/E, Powerworld, etc) and/or doing grid connection studies
  • Experience analyzing renewable project connectivity and transmission expansion.
  • Experience communicating complex quantitative analysis through client presentations, reports, workshops, webinars or other external-facing formats.
  • Master’s degree or PhD in electrical engineering, power systems, energy systems or a related quantitative field.
