Job Title: Hardware Engineer Electrical / PCB Design
Job Description
This role offers the opportunity for a motivated Electrical Engineer to design, test, and optimize printed circuit board (PCB) solutions for residential and power products. You will work closely with hardware, software, and product teams to deliver robust analog, digital, RF, and mixed-signal designs, while supporting both new product development and sustaining engineering in a modern, connected IoT environment.
Responsibilities
- Contribute to new product design and sustaining activities for analog, digital, RF, and mixed-signal electronic circuit designs used in residential power systems.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including hardware, software, and product engineering, to execute development tasks and board-level validation.
- Conduct hardware functional, environmental, and lifecycle validation to verify reliability, performance, and long-term robustness of designs.
- Support product safety, electromagnetic compatibility (EMC), and environmental compliance efforts throughout the development lifecycle.
- Participate in electrical hardware design reviews and contribute to the continuous improvement of products, design practices, and development processes.
- Troubleshoot hardware issues during product development and testing, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
- Document electrical system designs, implementation details, and test results in a clear and organized manner.
- Use standard electronics laboratory tools such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and digital multimeters (DMMs) to analyze, debug, and verify the proper operation of electronic circuits and systems.
- Occasionally develop custom electrical equipment to support specialized features, functions, or test requirements.
- Collaborate in defining electrical hardware development tasks, project timelines, and budgets to support effective project planning.
- Support compliance-related sensing and design work while handling some sustaining engineering responsibilities for existing products.
- Interface with engines and motor drivers where required, working primarily at the integrated circuit (IC) level to ensure correct functionality and integration.
Essential Skills
- Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering is required; a Masters degree in a related field is preferred.
- 12+ years of relevant work experience
- Experience collaborating on technical teams focused on developing electrical hardware.
- Hands-on experience with circuit capture and PCB design tools, such as OrCAD.
- Experience with electronic circuit board modeling and simulation techniques, such as PSpice.
- Working knowledge of microcontrollers, microprocessors, memory devices, analog-to-digital converters (ADCs), and common communications technologies.
- Ability to use standard electronics lab equipment, including oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and digital multimeters, for analysis and debugging.
- Strong motivation and the ability to collaborate effectively in a team setting while also working independently to achieve results.
- Strong engineering fundamentals in electronics and electrical hardware design.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience defining hardware requirements and ensuring test coverage and traceability from requirements through validation.
- Knowledge of control systems used in power systems and residential power applications.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to engage effectively across diverse technical and non-technical audiences.
- Experience designing for wireless systems, including technologies such as Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE), WiFi, ISM band solutions, and LTE.
- RF knowledge or exposure to RF design concepts.
- Experience with module integration and designing for regulatory and safety compliance.
- Familiarity with UL certification and design standards relevant to electrical and electronic products.
- Awareness of EMI/EMC testing requirements and best practices for designing to minimize interference.
- Exposure to PCB layout considerations and collaboration with layout engineers.
- Experience working primarily at the IC level, including integration of ICs into broader system designs.
- Experience interfacing with engines and motor drivers in embedded or power electronics applications.
Work Environment
You will work in a modern engineering environment focused on connected, cloud-based, and IoT-enabled products. The role typically involves approximately three days per week onsite in a lab environment, with some flexibility in scheduling, allowing you to balance hands-on hardware work with offsite design and analysis tasks. The lab environment includes access to standard electronics test and measurement equipment such as oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers, and digital multimeters, supporting both new product development and sustaining engineering activities. You will collaborate closely with a technically strong engineering team that values rigorous design practices, continuous improvement, and high-quality, reliable products for residential and power system applications.
