Job Overview
This role is internal only for employees of the BSW group only (RUH Bath, SFT Salisbury, GWH Swindon) and HIWE.
Our purpose at Health Innovation West of England is to transform lives through innovation. The Evaluation and Insights team supports health and care teams across our region to understand the impact of introducing innovations – from new technologies to the redesign of services – on patients and the public, health and care professionals, and the wider system.
Our evaluation and insights work can take a variety of forms, such as rapid insight generation, evidence synthesis, mixed methods service evaluation and health economic analysis. We also support the real-world validation of innovations to understand their impact on patients, staff and the healthy economy to understand the potential value of their wider adoption.
The Evaluation & Insights team have recently undergone an exciting period of transformation to position ourselves, operationally, to deliver our 5-year strategy for 2023-28. Through this we have grown our capability and capacity to undertake evaluation and insights activity. With the support of a fixed-term health economist, we have started to expand the ability of our team to develop health economic analyses. Given the demand from our system, we recognise the need to have a permanent senior health economist to deliver and design economic analyses and to supervise and support other evaluation staff in delivery of these.
Main duties of the job
The Purpose Of This Role Includes:
Providing the authoritative source of health economics expertise for Health Innovation West of England, leading on service development, methodological standards, quality assurance and professional advice.
Accepting referrals from anyone in the organisation to support and advise innovators and system partners with health economics advice
Working as part of the Evaluation & Insights team within Health Innovation West of England, taking a leadership role for a portfolio of health economics evaluations.
Engaging with clinical and wider system colleagues to understand their health economics needs and problems that may be addressed via capacity building and training
Translating health economics analysis into appropriate outputs, suitable for evaluation reports, board presentations or business cases and communicating and presenting these at different levels, including executive team and board level.
Leading on training and capacity building in health economics across Health Innovation West of England
Scoping and designing Health Economics projects, and the health economic aspects of larger programmes of work
Supporting the Associate Director of Evaluation and Insights by identifying opportunities for, managing and support bidding on health economics commissions relevant to our existing work programme and future strategy
Supervising Senior Evaluation Researchers (Band 7) and Evaluation Research practitioners (Band 6) to develop health economic models
Working for our organisation
Health Innovation West of England is one of 15 Health Innovation Networks commissioned by NHS England. We help discover, develop and spread innovation that improves health and care, supporting the shift from hospital to community, analogue to digital, and treatment to prevention.
We offer flexible hybrid working, combining home working with regular attendance at our Bristol office and travel across the region to support workshops, events and partner meetings.
