HR Advisor (Employee Relations)

£38,110 per annum + benefits | The Maltings, Bath | Hybrid - minimum 3 office-based days

Permanent | Full Time | 37 hours per week

Your HR Expertise. Our People. A Great Place to Work.

Good HR advice does more than keep an organisation compliant. It helps a manager handle a difficult conversation well, gets a colleague back to work with the right support and turns a concern into a fair outcome everyone can move forward from.

That's the difference you'll make as our HR Advisor. Working in our small HR and Organisation Development (OD) shared service team, you'll manage your own employee relations caseload and give clear, practical advice to managers and colleagues across Curo. You'll coach managers to handle everyday people matters themselves, so they lead their teams with confidence. Employee relations is at the heart of this role and will take up most of your week, so it's ideal if casework is the part of HR you enjoy most.

You won't face the toughest cases alone. You'll work alongside our HR Business Partners on complex cases, building your experience as you go. If you're keen to grow your HR career, this role gives you real breadth across employee relations, policy, people data and the full employee lifecycle.

What you'll be doing

  • Managing your own caseload of employee relations cases, including absence, probation, performance, routine disciplinaries, grievances and flexible working

  • Advising and coaching managers so they can handle everyday people matters themselves, using the right guidance and self-service tools

  • Escalating cases involving senior managers, potential dismissal or legal risk to our HR Business Partners

  • Keeping accurate case records and using case trends and feedback to spot issues early and improve how we work

  • Helping keep HR policies, workflows and toolkits compliant, clear and easy to use

  • Supporting colleagues and managers at every stage of employment, from onboarding to leaving Curo

More about you

You're a clear communicator who can explain HR matters in plain English and tailor your advice to the person in front of you, from a frontline team leader to a senior manager. You build trusted relationships and would rather help a manager solve a problem than solve it for them.

You handle sensitive and confidential matters with care and fairness. And you're curious, keen to keep learning and ready to take on more complex work as you grow.

Essential:

  • CIPD Level 5 or equivalent, or substantial practical experience in an HR advisory role

  • Experience of advising and coaching managers through employee relations cases such as absence, performance, disciplinary and grievance

  • Sound, practical knowledge of UK employment law, and the judgement to know when to seek further advice

  • Experience of improving HR workflows, processes or toolkits

  • Experience of using HR systems to manage colleague records, cases or workflows

  • Well organised, able to prioritise a busy caseload, meet deadlines and use your own initiative

What you'll get in return

Beyond a salary of £38,110 and the chance to make a real difference every day, you'll get:

  • 26 days annual leave per year (plus bank holidays) rising to 29 days after 3 years

  • Your birthday off as an extra holiday

  • Up to 10% matched pension contribution

  • Hybrid working (3 days office, 2 days home)

  • Flexible benefits which might include a Health Cash Plan

  • Access to an Employee Assistance Programme for your own wellbeing
