About the Team You'll join JSM's Engineering Standards & Assurance function, part of our Group SHEQ (Safety, Health, Environment & Quality) business line. You'll support the Head of Engineering Standards & Assurance as a senior technical authority on electrical safety and quality across the Power Division, trusted by leadership and clients to secure the performance that backs up our commitments. You'll work closely with Divisional Leadership, Operations, external electrical safety specialist contractors and clients, plus the Senior Authorised Persons, Jointers and Fitters you train and assess. The role is based in Potters Bar, with occasional travel to operational sites across the UK. About the Role As HV Electrical Assurance Engineer, you'll help shape and deliver JSM's engineering assurance approach across our rapidly expanding operations — the senior technical authority on electrical safety and quality that leadership and clients rely on. Day to day, you will: Act as the point of contact for all High Voltage (HV) electrical safety matters across the Power Division Support HV safety compliance, maintaining NERS accreditation and authoring or reviewing HV policies and procedures Provide independent assurance through regular audits and inspections on all HV work up to 132kV, checking each contract follows the integrated management system Hold the substations safety log duty holder role, managing switching operations in line with electrical distribution safety rules Train and assess HV roles and competencies — Senior Authorised Persons, Jointers and Fitters — and maintain competency records Act as National Grid OC8 Code compliance safety co-ordinator Mentor engineers towards Senior Authorised Person (SAP) status Oversee the investigation of significant HV safety and quality issues, applying Just Culture and Human Factors to establish root causes and share lessons Expect occasional travel across UK operational sites, alongside office-based work from Potters Bar. You'll hold statutory HV authorisations and carry duty-holder responsibilities as part of the role. About You You'll do well here if you recognise yourself in this: You're hungry to grow and you take personal responsibility for your work and your development You're comfortable with complexity and you'd rather solve a hard technical problem than avoid it You work well across disciplines — you know good delivery depends on civil, power and digital teams pulling in the same direction You use sound judgment under pressure and you're straight with people about risk and programme You bring deep HV electrical expertise and back it with judgment under pressure — colleagues trust your call on safety and switching Experience Essential Extensive experience as a Senior Authorised Person (SAP) for HV up to 132kV Deep technical knowledge of HV equipment, switchgear and electrical distribution safety rules Experience of working with UK Power Networks / National Grid, directly or through a Principal Contractor, or on large-scale private HV networks Desirable Experience training or assessing Senior Authorised Persons, Jointers or Fitters Experience with National Grid OC8 Code compliance Requirements & Qualifications Essential HNC in Electrical Engineering or equivalent Minimum of 3 years' experience as a Senior Authorised Person Full, clean UK driving licence Desirable NEBOSH Certificate or other occupational health & safety qualification If you meet most but not all of the above, we'd still like to hear from you.
