LEGO Digital Play will bring the LEGO® brand into digital entertainment in new, innovative, and wholly-owned ways. Our mission is to ensure the LEGO brand remains as powerfully a part of children’s lives in the coming decades as it has ever been. We aim to reach every kid on the planet, their parents, and adult fans—and provide them with meaningful, magical, and playful new experiences.
We are at the earliest phases of this new company, offering a unique opportunity to build a new entity for the world's most beloved and trusted brand. Our culture is open, collaborative, intellectually rigorous, and creatively vibrant.
We are looking for a Senior Infrastructure Engineer, Cloud, who has built cloud platforms from the ground up and wants to set the technical direction for one at the start of a new company. You will own the architecture of the cloud foundation that our engineering teams build on, from landing zones and infrastructure as code through to observability, security and cost, and set the standards other engineers follow.
This is a senior individual contributor role: you will lead through technical judgement, design reviews and mentoring rather than line management. It is a newly created role based in London, reporting to the Director of Technical Operations.
Key Responsibilities
• Own the architecture of the cloud foundation, AWS-first and extending to Google Cloud where needed, making the key decisions on landing zones, account and project structure, networking and secrets management.
• Set the security, privacy and compliance posture at the infrastructure layer, designing least-privilege IAM, encryption at rest and in transit, audit logging and controls that meet GDPR and COPPA requirements by default.
• Define the Terraform standards, module architecture and review practices the wider engineering organisation builds on, and hold the bar on quality.
• Design paved roads and self-service tooling that let engineering teams ship reliably and quickly without reinventing the basics, treating internal teams as customers.
• Drive the reliability and observability strategy, including SLO frameworks, metrics, tracing, log aggregation and incident practices, and lead on the most complex production issues.
• Lead infrastructure design for compute-intensive and specialised workloads, including GPU capacity and machine learning platform needs, in partnership with the teams that depend on them.
• Own cost architecture and FinOps practice, building cost visibility in from the start and making the trade-offs between cost, performance and resilience explicit.
• Mentor engineers, lead design reviews and write the technical proposals that shape how the infrastructure team and its standards develop.
Required Qualifications
• Substantial experience as a senior or lead infrastructure engineer, with a track record of setting technical direction for cloud platforms running in production.
• Deep expertise in AWS at scale, including multi-account architecture, networking, IAM, managed data services and containerisation, with the judgement to know when to keep things simple.
• Expert-level Terraform, having designed module architectures, state strategies and CI/CD-driven infrastructure workflows that other teams have adopted.
• You will have built a cloud foundation from a low or zero baseline before, making and revisiting the early architectural decisions yourself.
• A track record of designing reliability and observability systems, including SLO frameworks and incident practices, with tools such as CloudWatch, Grafana, Prometheus or OpenSearch.
• Security- and privacy-minded, with experience designing infrastructure for regulated consumer environments and working knowledge of GDPR and COPPA.
• Fluency with modern AI tooling in development and operations, using it to move faster while retaining the judgement to catch its failures and stand behind the quality of what ships.
• Able to influence without authority: writing clear technical proposals, explaining trade-offs to technical and non-technical audiences, and mentoring other engineers.
Preferred Qualifications
• Production experience with Google Cloud alongside AWS.
• Experience designing infrastructure for machine learning workloads, including GPU orchestration, model serving (Triton, vLLM or equivalent) and MLOps tooling.
• Experience leading the design of an internal developer platform or paved-road system.
• Background in games or interactive-media infrastructure, including content and asset pipelines.
• Experience in brand-safe or regulated consumer ecosystems such as children's products, health or fintech.
