Financial Controller | Private Equity-Backed Technology Business
Location: West London/Berkshire | Hybrid (2–3 days per week)
Salary: £90,000–£100,000 + bonus and benefits
Contract: 12 month FTC, with view to go permanent.
Dartmouth Partners is supporting a growing, private equity-backed technology business in the appointment of a Financial Controller, reporting directly to the CFO.
Operating within the technology infrastructure sector, the business has a turnover in the region of c.£20m and is undergoing a period of significant change, transformation and professionalisation as it prepares for its next phase of growth and an eventual private equity exit.
This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious, technically strong finance professional who combines excellent financial control capabilities with commercial acumen, high emotional intelligence and the confidence to operate in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
We are particularly interested in individuals who have operated within similarly sized, £15m–£50m turnover businesses, understand the challenges of scaling a finance function and would be motivated by the opportunity to contribute to a future private equity transaction.
The Role
Working closely with the CFO, the Financial Controller will play a central role in strengthening the finance function, improving reporting and controls, and supporting the business through a period of operational and financial transformation.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Ownership of financial control, month-end reporting, statutory accounts and technical accounting matters.
- Strengthening financial processes, reporting disciplines and internal controls to support a growing, investor-backed business.
- Supporting finance systems transformation, including the implementation and optimisation of NetSuite.
- Managing external audit, tax and compliance requirements across a multi-entity, international business.
- Working closely with the CFO to improve the quality of management information, forecasting and financial visibility.
- Partnering with commercial and operational stakeholders to provide financial insight and support decision-making.
- Contributing to exit readiness, including improving reporting quality, financial governance and the robustness of financial information ahead of a future transaction.
About You
We are looking for an ambitious, high-calibre finance professional with the technical foundations, commercial judgement and interpersonal skills to thrive in a changing business.
Essential requirements:
- ACA-qualified, ideally having trained within a reputable audit practice.
- Strong technical accounting knowledge, with a solid grounding in financial reporting, statutory accounts, audit and controls.
- Experience operating within a small to mid-sized business, ideally with turnover of approximately £10m–£50m.
- Experience working in an environment undergoing change, growth, systems implementation or finance transformation.
- Strong commercial acumen, with the ability to understand the wider business beyond the numbers.
- Excellent communication skills, high EQ and the confidence to build relationships across finance, operations and senior leadership.
- A hands-on, proactive and solutions-oriented approach, comfortable balancing day-to-day financial control with wider improvement initiatives.
Highly desirable:
- Experience within a private equity-backed business or an understanding of the demands of investor ownership.
- Exposure to transaction preparation, financial due diligence or a previous private equity exit.
- Experience within technology, software, infrastructure or another commercially complex business.
- NetSuite or broader ERP implementation experience.
Why Consider This Opportunity?
This is a role offering considerably more than traditional financial control.
The successful candidate will work directly with an experienced CFO, gain meaningful exposure to private equity ownership and play an important part in preparing the business for its next phase of development and an eventual transaction.
We are particularly keen to engage with high-potential individuals who are motivated by the opportunity to grow their careers, take on increasing responsibility and make a tangible impact within a business undergoing significant transformation.
If you are a technically excellent, commercially minded finance professional who enjoys navigating change and wants exposure to the private equity investment lifecycle, we would be delighted to hear from you.
