Many of such models are publicly available, and while they perform great on general tasks, they often struggle with domain-specific tasks due to their general nature. To avoid the colossal cost of developing domain-specific LLMs from scratch, a technique called ‘Finetuning’ has recently gained traction. Here, an existing LLM is tuned for a specific task given a smaller dataset, leveraging the existing natural language processing capabilities of the multi-billion-parameter models. This is where you come in. The assignment What you’ll do We are looking for an enthusiastic master student with a background in data science to help us create our own virtual assistant. Your work will begin with researching and selecting state-of-the-art Large Language Models (LLMs) and identifying the most effective finetuning techniques to tailor them for our specific needs. You will then preprocess and structure the data to ensure the model can accurately understand and respond to real-world user queries. Once the groundwork is laid, you will implement and execute the finetuning process, optimizing the model’s ability to assist users effectively. Finally, you will evaluate the model’s performance to ensure it meets high-quality standards. Through this process you will gain hands-on experience, helping create a truly impactful and intelligent virtual assistant.
