Show job description

At Redox One, we develop iron-chromium flow batteries for the large-scale energy storage requirements of businesses and utilities as a wholly owned subsidiary of Tharisa Plc., an integrated resource group based in Europe. Engineered specifically for high-utilization applications that make renewable energy sources reliable, our scalable flow battery solutions are setting new benchmarks for large-scale energy storage.

To help us build and scale our energy storage technology, we are looking for an IT Infrastructure & DevOps Engineer to start immediately at our European Technology Center in Dortmund, Germany.

Your Responsibilities

As IT Infrastructure & DevOps Engineer at Redox One, you will own our IT stack from our local offices and operators to our energy storage devices in the field. You will be responsible for the infrastructure that connects, monitors and manages devices across their entire lifecycle, as well as integrating them with the ecosystem of tools that support our engineers and developers. You will play a key role in designing, selecting and developing the required infrastructure components as a member of a small, interdisciplinary team of engineers, technicians, developers and researchers all working towards the continuous improvement of our battery systems and the technology that surrounds them.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting with system administration of our local office infrastructure and integration with the company-wide IT ecosystem at Tharisa
  • Working with the software team to design and develop comprehensive IT systems for commissioning, updating, monitoring and remotely operating our devices, ensuring their reliability and uptime
  • Conceptualizing, building, documenting, deploying, operating and maintaining cloud and deployment infrastructure for a user-facing cloud portal
  • Providing data integration and analysis tools for the various engineering teams at Redox One
  • Leading migration and modernization efforts of and to the infrastructure you are responsible for
  • Working with our quality assurance team to establish procedural operating guidelines, compliance processes and emergency response plans
  • Providing second- and third-level support for our IT infrastructure and responding to incidents

Desired Qualifications

We’re looking for candidates who enjoy working across teams, think in terms of automations and platforms, and want to build infrastructure that scales. Ideally, you have

  • proven experience in cloud engineering and infrastructure operations with at least one cloud vendor,
  • set up, maintained and operated message queueing and/or event streaming pipelines (e.g., with MQTT/AMQP/ZMQ, Kafka/Pulsar, EventHub/EventBridge), including brokering and storage,
  • set up CI/CD pipelines and build system integrations with cloud services,
  • prior experience with high-availability deployments and distributed services / databases,
  • fluency in both German and English in reading and writing.

We do not expect every candidate to match all of the above points – If you think you would be a good fit for the role, please apply! Based on our current technology stack and future goals, we will prefer candidates with expertise in one or more of the following areas:

  • Infrastructure and cloud operations in Microsoft Azure and/or on-premise
  • Embedded Linux environments, package and OS builds, and remote software and firmware updates
  • Battery or other electrical systems, factory plants, or similar
  • Programming in or deployment tools for a natively compiled programming language, ideally Rust
  • Application and cloud security, geo-replication and failover
  • Automation tools like Ansible or Puppet and Infrastructure as Code solutions (k8s, Pulumi, …)
  • OpenTelemetry, observability and observability databases, time-series databases, and corresponding dashboarding and visualization tools
  • Data processing and data analytics

What We Offer

  • A modern tech stack that you have the ability to shape.
  • The chance to grow with our company and continuous career development opportunities along the entire product lifecycle.
  • A dynamic and flexible workplace where you can apply your creativity to solve complex problems with an experienced and motivated team, a flat hierarchy and fast communication paths.
  • The role is full-time remote within the EU as either a permanent employment contract or B2B / independent contract.
  • Competitive compensation based on experience (direct employees) or negotiable hourly B2B rate (contractors).
