JUNIOR ASSISTANT PRODUCER

3 Rock Productions – Job Description

Job Title: Junior Assistant Producer

Reports to: Line Producer

Location: London – Goodge Street and Westworks, White City (hybrid working available)

Contract: Fixed-term, commencing mid-to-late November 2026, through to the end of the 2026/27 rugby season (dates TBC)

Hours of Work: Full-time, with flexibility required for weekend and evening production.

Purpose

To provide editorial, creative and practical support to the production team across 3 Rock Productions, primarily working on Gallagher PREM Rugby highlights for ITV and Investec Champions Cup programming for EPCR.

This is a junior position suited to someone in the early stages of their television production career, potentially looking to progress from a Researcher or Production Assistant role. Working closely with experienced Producers, the successful candidate will gain hands-on experience across research, filming, editing and programme delivery, with opportunities to develop their skills and take on greater editorial responsibility.

Role Overview

The Junior Assistant Producer will support the Producers and wider production team across all stages of programme production, from initial research and planning through to filming, editing and delivery.

The role will involve researching stories, preparing editorial material, assisting with highlights production, coordinating filming opportunities and supporting location shoots.

We're looking for someone with a strong work ethic, creative instincts and a willingness to learn. The successful candidate should be comfortable taking initiative, contributing ideas and getting involved across different areas of production.

Previous experience in a junior television production role would be beneficial, but we're more interested in finding someone with the right attitude, enthusiasm and potential than an extensive production CV.

Responsibilities

Editorial & Creative Development

  • Research stories, players, clubs and emerging narratives across domestic and European rugby.
  • Support Producers in identifying and developing engaging editorial content for broadcast and digital platforms.
  • Contribute creative ideas for features, interviews and programme content.
  • Research potential contributors and prepare background information, briefing notes and interview questions.
  • Develop an understanding of the editorial requirements and audiences of our broadcast partners.
  • Identify opportunities to make our programming more engaging, distinctive and relevant.

Programme Production & Delivery

  • Support the weekly production and delivery of Gallagher PREM Rugby highlights programming for ITV.
  • Assist Producers with the preparation of programme content, including research, footage selection and editorial planning.
  • Log matches, identify key moments and prepare material for highlights edits.
  • Assist with sourcing, organising and managing footage, archive and other production assets.
  • Work alongside Producers and Editors during post-production, supporting the efficient delivery of programmes.
  • Help maintain production schedules and ensure editorial and practical requirements are met.
  • Support the production and delivery of Investec Champions Cup programming for EPCR.

Filming & Location Production

  • Assist in planning and coordinating filming opportunities with clubs, players, talent and other contributors.
  • Support Producers on location shoots, including interviews, features and behind-the-scenes access.
  • Assist with camera operation, sound recording and other technical requirements where appropriate.
  • Help organise shoot logistics, including equipment, travel, schedules and contributor arrangements.
  • Develop practical filming and production skills through experience and guidance from senior colleagues.
  • Be available for occasional travel within the UK and internationally, where required.

Digital Content & Post-Production

  • Assist with the creation and preparation of content for digital and social platforms.
  • Support basic editing tasks using Adobe Premiere Pro or equivalent software.
  • Help identify and prepare clips, interviews and other material for digital distribution.
  • Work with Producers and Editors to ensure footage and production assets are organised and accessible.
  • Contribute ideas for how existing programme content can be adapted or developed for different platforms.

Teamwork & Professional Development

  • Work collaboratively with Producers, Editors and the wider production team.
  • Take a proactive approach to supporting colleagues and identifying where assistance is required.
  • Demonstrate flexibility and a willingness to contribute across different areas of production.
  • Take responsibility for assigned tasks, communicating progress and raising potential issues.
  • Actively seek feedback and opportunities to develop editorial, creative and technical skills.
  • Contribute to a positive, supportive and ambitious working environment.

Essential Skills, Experience & Knowledge:

  • Some experience in television, digital or sports content production, or demonstrable transferable skills, with a clear ambition to develop a career in television production.
  • A genuine interest in sports television production and a desire to learn and progress within the industry.
  • A basic understanding of rugby and enthusiasm to develop knowledge of the domestic and international game.
  • Strong research skills and an ability to identify interesting stories, characters and editorial opportunities.
  • A proactive, resourceful approach, with the confidence to use initiative and solve problems.
  • Good organisational skills, attention to detail and the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • A creative mindset and willingness to contribute ideas and think differently.
  • A positive attitude, strong work ethic and willingness to support the team wherever required.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet demanding production deadlines.
  • Flexibility to work weekends, evenings and occasional unsocial hours as required.

Desirable Skills, Experience & Knowledge:

  • Previous experience in a junior television production role, such as Researcher or Editorial Assistant.
  • Experience using Adobe Premiere Pro, Photoshop or other creative software.
  • Basic camera operation, self-shooting or sound recording experience.
  • Experience researching contributors, developing editorial ideas or supporting location shoots.
  • Familiarity with broadcast production workflows, including logging, archive research and post-production.
  • Experience creating or editing content for digital and social media platforms.
  • Knowledge of Gallagher PREM Rugby, the Investec Champions Cup and the wider rugby landscape.
  • A full UK driving licence.

Personal Attributes:

Given the nature of our productions and the close-knit team at 3 Rock, finding the right individual is particularly important.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Shows initiative: Anticipates what needs doing, takes responsibility and looks for solutions rather than waiting for instructions.
  • Is ambitious and eager to learn: Wants to develop their abilities, embrace new challenges and progress within the industry.
  • Brings creativity: Has an enquiring mind, recognises interesting stories and isn't afraid to suggest new approaches.
  • Is a team player: Understands the importance of supporting colleagues and contributing to a collaborative working environment.
  • Is adaptable: Comfortable working across different productions, responding to changing priorities and getting involved wherever needed.
  • Takes pride in their work: Cares about quality, attention to detail and delivering the best possible result.
