Are you analytically sharp, commercially curious and passionate about one of the world's most complex and impactful risk domains? This is your chance to join a globally recognised Agriculture Reinsurance team and build a career at the intersection of data, markets and meaningful client relationships — all from the heart of Zurich.

About the Role

As an Underwriter in our Agriculture Reinsurance team, you will play an active role in shaping and growing our North American and EMEA Agriculture portfolios. This is a richly varied role that blends technical risk analysis, portfolio management, client engagement and business development across a wide spectrum of Agriculture risks and products — from crop and livestock to specialty and structured solutions. Whether you're deep in a pricing model or sitting across the table from a client, you'll be contributing to work that genuinely matters on a global scale.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Originate, analyse and underwrite reinsurance business across North America and EMEA, including crop, livestock and other specialty Agriculture risks

  • Support costing, loss modelling and portfolio management, analysing climate, agronomic, market and other key risk drivers to inform underwriting decisions

  • Develop and enhance analytical and costing approaches, with particular focus on US MPCI, Livestock & Dairy products

  • Translate data and model outputs into clear, actionable insights for pricing, risk selection and portfolio steering

  • Analyse commodity-price exposures and contribute to hedging and derivative solutions where relevant

  • Build and nurture relationships with clients, brokers and market participants, progressively taking ownership of key relationships and transactions

  • Drive business development and lead generation, identifying new clients, products and market opportunities

  • Participate in client meetings, market visits and industry events, helping to develop creative and differentiating solutions

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with the Agriculture Product Centre, actuarial, structuring and other specialist teams

About the Team

Swiss Re is a global leader in agricultural reinsurance, combining deep technical expertise with an extensive global footprint to serve clients across both mature and emerging markets. Our Agriculture team is international, highly specialised and genuinely collaborative — with colleagues based in Zurich, Beijing, Singapore, Mumbai, Mexico City and São Paulo.

You will work alongside experienced underwriters, modellers and subject-matter specialists who are passionate about what they do and committed to sharing knowledge. The team culture is open, intellectually curious and supportive — offering you real exposure across markets, disciplines and geographies from early in your career. Agriculture at Swiss Re is not a siloed function; it is a dynamic, globally connected community where your ideas and contributions are welcomed and valued.

About You

We are looking for someone who brings both analytical rigour and genuine commercial curiosity to everything they do. You enjoy working with data and models, but you're equally energised by client conversations, market exploration and finding creative solutions to complex problems. You're collaborative by nature, eager to learn and ready to take on responsibility as you grow.

We are looking for candidates who meet these requirements:

  • University degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Finance, Natural Sciences, Agriculture, Engineering or a related discipline

  • Analytical and data skills, with the ability to work with complex datasets and translate findings into clear insights;

  • First experience in (re)insurance, underwriting, pricing, quantitative modelling, analytics, risk management or commodity markets

These are additional nice to haves:

  • Understanding of insurance and/or agricultural production systems, combined with a strong willingness to deepen that knowledge

  • Familiarity with tools or programming languages such as Python or R is an advantage

  • Ability to translate complex technical topics into clear, compelling messages for clients and decision-makers

  • Self-motivated and collaborative, with a willingness to take responsibility and support colleagues

  • Fluency in English; additional languages are a strong advantage

  • Cross-cultural agility and willingness to travel for client meetings, market visits and industry events

For Switzerland, the base salary range for this position is between 72,000 CHF and 108,000 CHF for a full-time role.

The specific salary offered considers:

  • the requirements, scope, complexity and responsibilities of the role

  • the applicant's own profile including education/qualifications, expertise, specialisation, skills and experience

In addition to your base salary, Swiss Re offers an attractive performance-based variable compensation component, designed to recognise your achievements. Furthermore, you will enjoy a variety of global and location specific benefits. Eligibility may vary depending on the terms of Swiss Re policies and your employment contract.

Our company has a hybrid work model where the expectation is that you will be in the office at least three days per week.
