Junior Video Editor - Documentary Series and Social
Location: Remote (production team is UK-based)
Job Type: Full-time
Working Hours: Full-time with UK overlap (core hours TBC), plus some short-notice work outside normal hours
Job Overview
Help bring a new YouTube documentary series to life for a growing US baby brand. The series follows the women who run the brand, with 12-15 minute episodes plus plenty of short-form for social. The tone is workplace comedy meets reality TV: funny, a bit chaotic, with real pressure underneath.
You'll work closely with the showrunners, director and producer, taking the heavy lift off their plate so they can focus on the final edit. Final cuts stay with the showrunners. You'll own everything that gets the edit there fast. Your time is split roughly between the series and the brand's wider YouTube and social content.
Core Focus
- Keep a large, growing multicam documentary project organised, ingested and ready to cut
- Turn raw footage into string-outs and selects the showrunners can shape fast
- Deliver long-form YouTube and short-form social edits for the brand
Key Responsibilities
- Ingest, organise and transcribe large amounts of multicam footage and lav audio (6-8TB today, growing to 20-25TB)
- Create proxies from full-resolution footage and build project sessions so the team can start cutting right away
- Log and sort clips so the edit team can find anything fast
- Edit string-outs and sequences, and pull selects from transcripts
- Handle exports, uploads and review rounds
- Edit long-form YouTube content, including educational videos
- Cut short-form content for social
- Support the marketing and social teams with their outputs
Must-Haves
- Speed in both DaVinci Resolve and Premiere Pro (the team uses both)
- Able to colour grade and mix audio
- Proven experience handling large amounts of footage and data, with excellent organisation
- Hands-on with remote ingest and proxy workflows on large multicam projects
- A good ear for comedy and timing, and a strong instinct for storytelling
- Strong, clear communicator who works fast
- Available at short notice, sometimes outside normal working hours
- Fast internet connection
- Fast machine: minimum Apple M3 Max
Nice-to-Haves
- Documentary, docuseries or reality-style editing experience
- Experience cutting YouTube long-form and educational content
- Short-form social editing for brands
- Experience with cloud-based Resolve projects and shared NAS storage
Tools
- DaVinci Resolve (project lives in the cloud)
- Premiere Pro
- Frame.io (backup and review)
- NAS storage and SSD workflows
- Transcription tools (TBC)
What Success Looks Like
First 30 Days
- Up and running on the cloud Resolve project, NAS and Frame.io workflow
- Existing footage ingested, proxied, transcribed and logged so the team can find anything fast
- First string-outs and selects delivered to the showrunners
By 60 Days
- Owning ingest-to-selects on every new shoot without hand-holding
- String-outs land close to the tone the showrunners want, with fewer review rounds
- Regular short-form social cuts shipping alongside the series
By 90 Days
- The showrunners spend their time on final cuts, not prep
- A smooth system in place as footage grows toward 20-25TB
- Trusted to turn around long-form YouTube and educational edits on your own
Who You Are
- Fast, organised and calm when the footage keeps coming
- Funny, with a feel for comedic timing and a real story
- Proactive communicator who flags problems early
- Happy to jump in at short notice when the shoot needs it
Deal Breakers
- Premiere-only or Resolve-only editors (must be fast in both)
- No hands-on experience with large multicam ingest and proxy workflows
- No real showreel or portfolio of work samples
- Slow internet or a machine below an Apple M3 Max
