Landscape Designer & Project Coordinator

Remote | Colombia | Part-Time | $12–$18 USD/hour

About the Opportunity

Janscapes LLC is a growing landscape design-build and arborist consulting company based in Orlando, Florida. We specialize in residential landscape design, installations, tree assessments, permitting, and project management.

We're seeking a skilled, highly organized Landscape Designer & Project Coordinator to work directly with the business owner on both landscape design and day-to-day project operations.

This is a hybrid role in terms of responsibilities: part landscape designer, part project coordinator. We're looking for someone who enjoys creative and technical work but is equally comfortable researching materials, preparing estimates, contacting suppliers, and keeping projects organized.

Our goal is to build a long-term working relationship with someone who can take ownership of assigned tasks, anticipate next steps, and help projects move forward independently.

Key Responsibilities

Landscape Design & Technical Drafting

  • Develop residential landscape plans using property surveys, site photographs, sketches, and field measurements.
  • Prepare planting layouts, plant schedules, landscape calculations, and material quantity takeoffs.
  • Create and revise CAD drawings for client presentations, construction, and municipal permitting.
  • Assist with conceptual designs, planting combinations, and visual presentations.
  • Research Florida-appropriate plant species, specifications, spacing, and availability.
  • Maintain organized drawing files and project documentation.

Estimating & Project Coordination

  • Calculate quantities of sod, mulch, soil, plants, pavers, and other installation materials.
  • Prepare detailed estimates, material lists, and draft proposals using company pricing and templates.
  • Contact U.S. nurseries, suppliers, subcontractors, and permitting offices by phone and email.
  • Research material pricing, availability, delivery options, and alternative products.
  • Coordinate orders, deliveries, appointments, and project schedules.
  • Update project records, quotes, and schedules in Jobber and Google Workspace.
  • Follow up on outstanding information and help keep multiple projects moving.

Arborist, Permitting & Administrative Support

  • Organize tree inventories, inspection photographs, and field data.
  • Format arborist reports and technical documents using provided information and templates.
  • Assist with tree removal permits, landscape plan submissions, and application tracking.
  • Prepare professional client correspondence and project updates.
  • Maintain organized digital project files.
  • Occasionally assist with social media content, project photos, and portfolio updates.

Technical arborist assessments and final professional approvals remain the responsibility of the company's certified arborist.

Required Qualifications
  • At least 3 years of relevant professional experience in landscape design, landscape architecture, architecture, or a related field.
  • Strong AutoCAD proficiency and the ability to produce accurate, professional site and planting plans.
  • Experience interpreting property surveys, architectural drawings, and site plans.
  • Ability to perform material takeoffs, calculations, and basic project estimating.
  • Excellent written and spoken English, including confidence making professional telephone calls to U.S. businesses.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple assignments.
  • Resourceful, proactive, and comfortable researching unfamiliar subjects independently.
  • Reliable computer, high-speed internet, and professional communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Degree in Landscape Architecture, Architecture, or a closely related discipline.
  • Experience working with U.S.-based clients, contractors, or design firms.
  • Knowledge of tropical and subtropical planting design.
  • Familiarity with landscape construction methods, grading, drainage, or irrigation.
  • Experience with Photoshop, Google Earth, QCAD, or similar design software.
  • Familiarity with Jobber, Google Sheets, Google Docs, or other project management platforms.
  • Experience with permitting documentation or construction administration.
Schedule & Compensation
  • $12–$18 USD/hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
  • Approximately 15–20 hours per week initially, with potential to increase.
  • Fully remote position based in Colombia.
  • Flexible schedule with some availability during U.S. Eastern Time business hours for calls and coordination.
  • Long-term opportunity with increasing responsibilities as the business grows.
Who Will Succeed in This Role

We're particularly interested in someone who:

  • Enjoys both design and practical problem-solving.
  • Can turn rough field notes and photographs into accurate, organized deliverables.
  • Takes initiative rather than waiting for detailed instructions on every task.
  • Is comfortable making phone calls, asking questions, and coordinating with vendors.
  • Understands the importance of deadlines, accuracy, and professional communication.
  • Wants to grow with a small business and contribute meaningfully to its operations.
How to Apply

Please include the following with your application:

  1. Portfolio: Examples of landscape plans, CAD drawings, planting plans, or relevant technical work.
  2. Experience: A brief description of your landscape design and project coordination background.
  3. English proficiency: Your experience communicating professionally in English, especially by phone.
  4. Availability: Your current work situation, preferred weekly hours, and hourly rate in USD.
  • Shortlisted candidates may be invited to a video interview and a paid practical assessment involving a landscape plan revision, material takeoff, or project coordination exercise.
