General Role Responsibilities
Lead the technical handover and initial aftercare of new landscape and environmental sites, ensuring completed assets are safe, compliant, documented and ready for long-term management. Coordinate inspections, defects, contractors and site acceptance across a growing portfolio of greenspaces.
Role Specific Responsibilities:
Landscape & Greenspace Delivery Manager
Overview
As Landscape & Greenspace Delivery Manager, you will lead the technical handover and initial aftercare of English Estates’ growing portfolio of environmental and countryside projects. You will coordinate inspections, defects, documentation, warranties, maintenance mobilisation and site acceptance, ensuring that completed assets can move confidently into long-term management. You will become involved before completion so that operational requirements are reflected in capital works, specifications and management arrangements. Following handover, you will monitor establishment, contractor performance, budgets and defects until each site reaches a stable operational position.
Role Specific Tasks
The successful candidate will coordinate the following key areas of site delivery, handover and initial aftercare:
Handover Readiness and Site Acceptance
· Own and maintain a clear handover programme for each site, identifying responsibilities, dependencies, evidence requirements and target acceptance dates.
· Carry out pre-handover and completion inspections of hard and soft landscape works, identifying defects, incomplete items and operational risks.
· Coordinate defect schedules, remedial works and reinspection, maintaining momentum until agreed acceptance requirements are met.
· Confirm that access, boundaries, paths, drainage, structures, signage, planting, habitat works, utilities and other assets are safe and suitable for operational management.
· Coordinate formal site sign-off and provide a clear recommendation on whether the site is ready for handover, should be accepted subject to agreed actions, or is not yet acceptable.
Handover Information and Operational Mobilisation
· Check that approved plans, as-built drawings, management plans, asset schedules, risk assessments, warranties, certificates, consents and maintenance information are complete and accessible.
· Create and maintain a structured handover pack and asset record for each site, clearly recording outstanding obligations, warranty periods and future actions.
· Work with operational colleagues to translate technical and contractual information into practical site-management requirements.
· Coordinate the transfer of keys, access arrangements, emergency information, supplier details and site-specific health and safety information.
· Support a controlled transition from developer or capital works responsibility into English Estates’ long-term management.
Initial Aftercare and Establishment
· Prepare or review the initial aftercare plan, defining maintenance standards, inspection frequencies, seasonal priorities, establishment targets and reporting requirements.
· Procure, appoint and mobilise landscape and maintenance contractors for the initial aftercare period, ensuring scope, programme and responsibilities are clear.
· Monitor establishment of planting, habitats, grassland, trees and other landscape assets, commissioning replacements or remedial works where required.
· Manage aftercare budgets, contractor performance, variations and quality, with clear reporting against agreed outcomes and expenditure.
· Monitor defects and warranty obligations after handover, ensuring responsibility remains with the correct party and actions are closed within relevant timescales.
· Provide a structured review at the end of the initial aftercare period, confirming readiness for routine long-term management and recording any residual risks or actions.
Capital Works and Pre-Handover Technical Support
· Provide operational input during design review and capital works so that completed sites are maintainable, safe and capable of efficient long-term management.
· Review relevant contracts, specifications, drawings, management plans and warranties, focusing on requirements that affect completion, handover and aftercare.
· Carry out monitoring inspections during capital works and raise emerging quality, maintenance or access issues before they become barriers to handover.
· Support project feasibility, risk assessment, cost modelling and technical recommendations for new opportunities.
Relationships, Reporting and Improvement
· Build constructive relationships with clients, developers, local authorities, contractors, consultants and other project stakeholders.
· Maintain concise project trackers and provide clear reporting on handover status, defects, aftercare performance, budget, risks and decisions required.
· Work collaboratively across English Estates and the wider Group, supporting consistent specifications, templates and acceptance standards.
· Capture lessons from completed handovers and aftercare periods to improve designs, contracts, processes and future project delivery.
The responsibilities outlined are representative of the principal duties associated with the role. All colleagues are expected to adopt a flexible approach, undertaking additional duties commensurate with the role and contributing to the wider success of the business where required.
Ideal Candidate Profile
We are seeking a practical, organised landscape, countryside or estates professional with experience of managing sites, contractors and project delivery. The ideal candidate will combine technical understanding, strong communication and a commitment to quality and long-term site management.
· Relevant practical experience in landscape, countryside, estate, environmental or grounds management. We expect many suitable candidates to have around five years’ experience, but will consider strong applicants whose experience has been gained through a different route.
· Practical understanding of landscape establishment, maintenance and the quality issues that commonly arise during completion and early aftercare.
· Experience of managing contractors, projects or work programmes, including monitoring actions, deadlines, quality and costs.
· Confidence carrying out site inspections, recording defects and communicating clear requirements for remedial action.
· Strong organisation and record keeping, with the ability to manage multiple live sites and maintain focus through to closure.
· Clear and professional communication with clients, developers, councils, consultants, contractors and operational colleagues.
· Good commercial awareness and sound judgement when balancing quality, programme, cost and operational risk.
· Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel regularly to sites across southern England.
· Practical, proactive and persistent in progressing actions to completion.
· Comfortable challenging incomplete or substandard work while maintaining constructive relationships.
· Calm and methodical when coordinating detailed information across several parties.
· Committed to high standards of health, safety, environmental compliance and customer service.
· Dependable, collaborative and willing to take ownership of outcomes.
Additional Desirable Attributes
The following experience and qualifications would also be advantageous:
· Experience of SANG, country parks, nature reserves, strategic open space, biodiversity net gain or comparable environmental assets.
· Experience of site completion, practical completion, defects management, asset handover, contractor mobilisation or landscape aftercare.
· Understanding of planning obligations, management plans, landscape specifications or long-term stewardship arrangements.
· GIS capability using QGIS, ArcGIS or similar software.
· Membership of a relevant professional body, such as the Chartered Institute of Horticulture, Landscape Institute, CIEEM or RICS.
