Are you an email developer who also likes raising the bar for a whole team? Do you bring a passion for clean code, QA discipline, and campaign build standards to an environment where speed, accuracy, compliance, and consistency are critical?
Welcome to Neighborly, the hub of service brands that connects customers to top-notch local experts who repair, maintain, and enhance homes and businesses. Our long-standing business, with over 40 years of experience, is focused on strategic innovation as we build the future of home and business services. Bring your ambition to the table as we unlock new doors together, taking your career to the next level.
The Lead Email Developer is a hands-on builder and a technical leader. You will personally develop and QA email and SMS campaigns in our marketing automation platform, and you will direct a team of contractor developers, setting build standards, assigning and reviewing work, and keeping quality high as volume scales. The ideal candidate understands how email and SMS campaigns are built, tested, personalized, triggered, measured, and launched, and can show others how to do it well.
You will partner closely with Strategy, Brand, Creative, Data, Analytics, MarTech, Product, Legal, and vendor partners to ensure each campaign is built on clear requirements, validated data, sound technical logic, and compliant messaging practices.
Bring your experience and be empowered to innovate.
As a Lead Email Developer on the Marketing Automation team, a typical day for you will include:
- Build, QA, and deploy email and SMS campaigns, including HTML/CSS templates, Liquid personalization, dynamic content, triggered journeys, audience logic, and suppression rules.
- Lead and direct a team of contractor developers: onboard new contractors, assign and prioritize work, manage capacity and turnaround times, and give clear, timely feedback.
- Review contractor code and campaign builds before launch, serving as the final technical checkpoint for rendering, logic, links, personalization, and deployment readiness.
- Establish and improve build standards, QA checklists, documentation, reusable templates, modular components, and scalable frameworks so that work is consistent regardless of who builds it.
- Collaborate with Data, Product, Analytics, Engineering, MarTech, Creative, Legal, and external vendors to align requirements, validate data and technical dependencies, and mitigate launch risks.
- Maintain adherence to email and SMS regulations, consent management requirements, deliverability best practices, and data governance standards while minimizing defects and rework.
- Serve as the primary escalation point for technical issues, driving root-cause resolution and sharing what the team learns.
- Partner with leadership on contractor resourcing, including skill needs, capacity forecasts, and vendor performance.
Bring your skills and be inspired to achieve success.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Business, Information Systems, Computer Science, Communications, or a related field preferred; equivalent hands-on experience will be considered.
- 5+ years of hands-on experience developing email and SMS campaigns in marketing automation platforms such as Braze, Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Iterable, Responsys, Eloqua, HubSpot, or similar systems.
- Advanced technical fluency with HTML, CSS, Liquid or similar scripting logic, dynamic content, reusable templates, and email rendering best practices across clients and devices.
- Strong working knowledge of campaign execution, including segmentation, personalization, triggered journeys, suppression rules, subscription groups, link tracking, rendering QA, and deployment readiness.
- Working knowledge of customer data structures, CRM/CDP environments, APIs, webhooks, event triggers, data feeds, consent fields, and preference management.
- Experience leading, mentoring, or directing other developers, whether employees, contractors, or agency partners, including code review, work prioritization, and quality control.
- Proven ability to troubleshoot technical campaign issues, find root causes, document decisions, and communicate risks clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience managing campaign throughput, production calendars, QA cycles, and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong understanding of email and SMS compliance and deliverability, including CAN-SPAM, TCPA, CCPA, unsubscribe requirements, consent management, opt-out processing, list hygiene, and sender reputation.
- Ability to translate business requirements into technical campaign requirements, identify missing inputs, and document dependencies.
