The Java / OpenText Exstream Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, enhancing, and supporting document generation and backend application capabilities within the Enterprise Document Management and Client Onboarding ecosystem. This is a blended engineering role requiring hands-on expertise across OpenText Exstream and Java/Spring/Spring Boot, with responsibility for delivering end-to-end solutions across document composition, APIs, integrations, and supporting services.

Job Description

This position follows a hybrid work model, with an expectation to be in the office 3 days per week at the St. Petersburg, FL Corporate Office location.

Please note: This role is not eligible for Work Visa sponsorship, either currently or in the future.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, develop, enhance, and support document generation solutions using OpenText Exstream, including templates, layouts, reusable components, data-driven documents, and PDF/HTML outputs.
  • Design, develop, and support backend applications and services using Java, Spring, Spring Boot, REST APIs, and microservices.
  • Translate business and regulatory requirements into scalable technical solutions spanning document generation, backend services, data, and integrations.
  • Perform data mapping and integration across XML, databases, APIs, delimited/columnar files, and other enterprise data sources.
  • Collaborate with Business Analysts, architects, developers, and Quality Engineering teams throughout design, development, testing, and implementation.
  • Troubleshoot application, integration, document-generation, and production issues and drive them through resolution.
  • Contribute to application modernization, platform migration, proof-of-concepts, technical evaluations, and target-state solution development.
  • Leverage AI-assisted development tools to accelerate analysis, coding, testing, troubleshooting, documentation, and code quality while applying appropriate engineering judgment and validation.
  • Contribute to technical standards, reusable components, engineering best practices, CI/CD, operational stability, and continuous improvement.

Required Qualifications:

  • 6+ years of application development experience with demonstrated ability to independently design and deliver enterprise solutions.
  • Strong hands-on experience with OpenText Exstream 16.2+ and Exstream Designer, including templates, page layouts, complex data-driven tables, data sections, reusable components, PDF, and HTML outputs.
  • Strong hands-on development experience with Java, Spring, and Spring Boot.
  • Experience designing, developing, testing, and supporting RESTful APIs, microservices, and system integrations.
  • Experience with SQL and relational databases such as Microsoft SQL Server and/or Oracle, including query development, troubleshooting, and data integration.
  • Experience with XML, data mapping, Unix/Linux, source control, CI/CD, and Agile software delivery practices.
  • Experience effectively using AI-assisted development tools to improve engineering productivity, code quality, testing, and problem resolution.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, design, communication, and problem-solving skills with the ability to work across technologies and collaborate with business and technical teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with MessagePoint, enterprise document management, or other document composition platforms.
  • Experience with application modernization, legacy platform migration, ETL/data integration, and enterprise integration patterns.
  • Financial Services, Wealth Management, Client Onboarding, or other regulated-industry experience.

Role Expectations:

The engineer is expected to work across both OpenText Exstream and Java-based application components rather than being limited to a single technology. The individual should independently own technical analysis, design, development, testing, implementation, and production support; develop strong domain knowledge; leverage AI to improve development efficiency and quality; and contribute to holistic solutions across document generation, backend services, data, and integrations.
