Senior Product Engineer – Salesforce & AI

We are recruiting on behalf of our client, a growing technology business and established Salesforce AppExchange Partner, who is looking for an experienced Senior Product Engineer to join their Product Engineering team.

Our client specialises in developing innovative recruitment technology, combining the power of Salesforce with deep industry expertise to deliver tailored, scalable solutions to recruitment and staffing businesses across the UK, EMEA and APAC.

This is an exciting opportunity for a technically strong engineer who wants to take ownership of a significant part of a product platform, influence architectural decisions and help shape the future direction of the technology.

You'll remain hands-on with development while taking on greater technical responsibility, mentoring other engineers and working closely with customers and commercial teams. There is also a strong focus on AI-assisted development and the opportunity to help drive innovation in this area.

The role is primarily remote, with regular visits to the Liverpool office for team planning and collaboration.

The Role

As a Senior Product Engineer, you will take ownership of a key area of the platform, leading technical design, development and ongoing improvement across multiple projects.

You will be responsible for some of the most technically challenging work, setting development standards and patterns that other engineers can build upon. Alongside writing and reviewing code, you will influence architecture, improve engineering quality and help identify opportunities to enhance the product roadmap.

This is a senior, hands-on engineering position with real influence over technical direction, customer solutions and the development of the wider engineering team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build and deliver high-quality production software, remaining hands-on with development.
  • Take ownership of a significant area of the platform across multiple projects and development cycles.
  • Lead architectural decisions covering data modelling, integrations, platform security and multi-tenancy.
  • Develop and maintain Salesforce solutions using Apex, Lightning Web Components (LWC) and platform capabilities.
  • Work across Salesforce and third-party integrations.
  • Lead technical design reviews and act as a trusted reviewer for other engineers.
  • Break down complex and ambiguous technical challenges into manageable development tasks.
  • Drive improvements in testing strategy, CI, observability and release processes.
  • Lead incident response and identify preventative improvements to reduce future issues.
  • Identify technical debt and develop practical plans to address it.
  • Work directly with customers, contributing to technical discussions, pre-sales, scoping and feasibility assessments.
  • Evaluate technical risks, costs and timelines, balancing customer requirements with commercial priorities.
  • Influence the product roadmap by identifying opportunities and bringing forward evidence-based recommendations.
  • Mentor and support other engineers, helping to develop technical capability across the team.
  • Contribute to recruitment, technical interviews and the ongoing development of the engineering function.
  • Deputise for the Lead Product Engineer when required.
  • Explore and make effective use of AI-assisted development tools, understanding their limitations and ensuring the quality of generated output.

Skills and Experience Required

  • Approximately 4+ years' experience building and shipping production software.
  • Experience taking sustained ownership of a technical area or platform, rather than simply delivering individual projects.
  • Strong Salesforce ecosystem experience, particularly Apex, Lightning Web Components (LWC) and platform security.
  • Experience making architectural decisions within production systems and taking responsibility for their long-term impact.
  • Experience working across Salesforce and third-party integrations.
  • Hands-on experience with serverless architecture on AWS, particularly API Gateway, Lambda, DynamoDB and S3.
  • Strong understanding of software engineering principles, technical design and development best practice.
  • Experience improving engineering processes, including testing, CI/CD and observability.
  • Genuine experience and interest in AI-assisted development tooling, including the ability to assess, validate and verify AI-generated code.
  • Confidence working directly with customers and discussing technical solutions in a commercial context.
  • Experience mentoring other engineers and improving the technical capability of a team.
  • Comfortable making decisions with incomplete information and working in a fast-moving environment where priorities can change.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving and decision-making skills.

Desirable Experience

  • Familiarity with vector databases and Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) frameworks.
  • Experience with containerised applications and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Node.js development experience.
  • AWS certifications, such as Solutions Architect or Machine Learning Specialty.

What’s on Offer

  • Competitive salary, depending on experience.
  • 25 days' annual leave, increasing with tenure up to 30 days.
  • Company bonus scheme.
  • Monthly health and wellbeing allowance through Heka, covering a wide range of benefits and services.
  • Regular team socials.
  • Primarily remote working, with regular collaboration days in the Liverpool office.
  • Genuine ownership of a significant area of the product platform.
  • The opportunity to influence technical architecture, product direction and engineering standards.
  • Investment in AI tooling and the opportunity to develop expertise in emerging technologies.
  • A clear opportunity to grow into a broader technical leadership role.
