Compensation: Placement within the posted salary range is based on relevant experience, demonstrated skills, evidence of work quality, and alignment with the position’s responsibilities. Candidates who demonstrate exceptional proficiency in visual design, multimedia production, interactive learning development, and custom LMS templates may be considered for the upper end of the range. Meeting preferred qualifications does not automatically guarantee maximum pay.
About the role
Create visually distinctive, accessible, and effective digital learning experiences. Translate academic content and instructional ideas into polished course interfaces, multimedia, interactive activities, and reusable design systems—not just concepts or recommendations.
How we work
You will prototype and produce alongside faculty, instructional designers, and technology colleagues. We value excellent visual judgment, hands-on experimentation, feedback, and reusable solutions that can scale across courses and programs. Projects move between creative production, course development, and rapid problem-solving.
Key responsibilities
Visual design and learner experience
- Design engaging digital learning experiences using strong visual hierarchy, typography, composition, and information design.
- Turn complex academic material into clear graphics, layouts, and meaningful interactive experiences.
- Apply UX/UI, responsive design, and accessibility principles to navigation and learning content.
Templates and multimedia production
- Create accessible, reusable LMS templates, HTML/CSS layouts, and visual design systems that others can maintain.
- Produce instructional videos, animation, motion graphics, infographics, and other multimedia assets.
- Develop interactive scenarios, simulations, branching activities, and learning objects using appropriate tools.
Instructional design, innovation, and collaboration
- Partner with faculty and instructional designers on course design, learning activities, assessments, and development.
- Build and test learning content; prototype and evaluate AI and emerging technologies for instructional value and usability.
- Support course quality, accessibility, launches, and one-off faculty requests, including activity and technology testing.
- Contribute to parallel programs, reusable resources, shared projects, and continuous improvement.
Qualifications
What you bring
Required
- Five or more years of hands-on digital learning design, visual design, and multimedia development; bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent professional experience.
- Strong portfolio showing original visual judgment and finished multimedia, interactive, or template-based learning products.
- Expertise in typography, layout, color, visual hierarchy, UX, and accessible, responsive digital design.
- Experience creating reusable LMS layouts, HTML/CSS templates, or design systems and producing multimedia and interactive learning assets.
- Proficiency with professional design and production tools such as Adobe Creative Cloud, Figma, Camtasia, H5P, or equivalents.
- Understanding of instructional design, learning objectives, assessment alignment, and WCAG standards; strong collaboration and delivery skills.
Preferred
- Master’s degree; higher education teaching, course development, or faculty collaboration experience.
- Custom Brightspace templates, advanced animation/video, simulations, branching activities, JavaScript, or related front-end skills.
- Experience prototyping with generative AI, usability testing, and refining interactive learning products.
- Experience scaling visual systems and reusable learning assets across parallel programs.
- Professional proficiency in written Spanish.
