About Buenro

Our vision: enabling a world of life-changing experiences.

The most important moments in our lives often happen in person. We meet a partner, a co-founder, an investor or a best friend at a gathering we only heard about because we knew the right person.

Our mission: make event curators successful. It drives everything we build. The more curators thrive, the more of these experiences exist, and the closer we get to our vision.

Buenro is a marketplace for destination events. Curators of festivals, conferences and curated gatherings sell their tickets through Buenro, and their guests book where to stay in the same flow, from a private villa to any of 3 million hotels worldwide. Ticketing platforms only see the ticket. We see the whole trip, and we share our revenue with the curators who made it happen, giving them an income stream they've never had.

And it doesn't end when the event does. Curators keep benefiting from the community they built: whenever their members travel again and book through Buenro, the curator keeps earning. We match the price of the accommodation that the user can find anywhere else, so booking with us costs a guest nothing extra, yet every stay rewards the community that brought them together. It's an effortless way for people to give back to the experiences that changed their lives.

Where we are today

  • Proven in the real world. We've successfully launched our product, guests have adopted the full ticket-and-stay experience with no friction, and results keep beating our forecasts. It's proving to be a compelling solution for event curators.

  • Signed with leading event curators on multi-year exclusive partnerships, with a strong pipeline of festivals, conferences and destination events across music, business and sport.

  • Well funded and in a strong position, backed by founder-angels who are deeply devoted to our vision. They're here not for a quick return but for what we're building: bringing people together in real life, and the impact that will have.

  • A fully remote team with leaders from BCG, Uber, Airbnb, Goldman Sachs, J.P. Morgan and other exceptional companies.

Our culture is fast-moving, collaborative, and deeply caring about the experiences we create and support - both for our customers and within the team itself.

About the Role

We’re looking for our first Legal & Compliance Manager: the person who keeps Buenro’s deals moving, knows the rules in every market we operate in, and cares about the business as much as we do.

Staying compliant at Buenro isn’t simple. Every event brings together curators, accommodation partners and guests across different countries, and each country has its own rules on licensing, consumer pricing, tax reporting and data. Almost every client conversation raises a new question. Legal here runs on a clock set by ticket on-sale dates, not internal deadlines. A curator announcing a [destination] event with [X] weeks to on-sale means contracts, partner onboarding and pricing compliance for every guest market have to land in that window.

This is a hands-on role. You’ll start by doing the work yourself: draft and negotiate the contracts, build the templates, and map the regulations market by market. You’ll think beyond the contract in front of you and spot risks before anyone asks. The scope is broad, so we’ll prioritise together. Contracts and clearing the backlog of deals not at signature stage or already with external counsel come first, then the client obligations register and counterparty KYC. The regulatory map grows as we enter new markets.

Today, leadership handles legal and compliance alongside their day jobs, with help from external counsel. You’ll take this over and make legal a core strength of the company: the reason deals close faster, not slower.

What you'll own

Contracts

  • Build and maintain our contract template library: organiser agreements, accommodation partner agreements, rev-share terms, curator equity drafting, disputes, and the legal side of entity setup, NDAs, DPAs and supplier terms

  • Produce first drafts and redlines, negotiate directly with counterparties, and set clear escalation points for when external counsel is needed

  • Agree turnaround standards with Sales so legal is never the reason a deal stalls

Client legal obligations register

  • Own a single register of what we have committed to each client and partner: SLAs, liability caps, data terms, exclusivity, advance facilities, guarantees, security, renewal and notice dates

  • Along with the Head of Finance, jointly run every curator deal that carries an advance, and neither signs off alone.

  • Flag upcoming obligations and risks to the relevant owner before they bite

Counterparty KYC

  • Design and run proportionate KYC and due diligence for organisers, accommodation partners and suppliers, including sanctions and PEP screening

  • Keep records audit-ready and aligned with our payments partners' requirements

Regulatory map per market

  • Build and maintain a market-by-market map covering licensing (travel, accommodation, intermediary), consumer pricing and fee display rules, short-term rental rules, DAC7 platform reporting and GDPR

  • Translate it into practical guidance for Product, Sales and Ops, and update it as we enter new markets

  • Monitor regulatory change and brief leadership on what it means for us

External counsel and budget

  • Own the external counsel budget, panel and briefings; decide what stays in-house and what goes out

  • Track spend against budget and report on it monthly

Wider compliance

  • Act as the go-to for privacy and data protection, including policies, DPIAs and data subject requests

  • Partner with Finance on tax and payments compliance, and with People & Talent on contractor agreements

First 90 days

  1. Days 1-30: Take over live contract work (not at signature stage or with external legal counsel) and clear the backlog. Everything not yet papered is yours from week one. Audit existing templates and signed agreements, and agree a contract intake and turnaround process with Sales.

  2. Days 31-60: Ship refreshed core templates with a fallback-positions playbook. Stand up the client obligations register and a first version of counterparty KYC.

  3. Days 61-90: Deliver v1 of the regulatory map for our priority markets, with DAC7 and GDPR readiness confirmed. Set the external counsel budget and panel for the next 12 months.

What you'll bring

  • 6-8 years in-house legal or compliance experience at a marketplace, ticketing, travel or fintech company

  • A law degree or equivalent legal qualification; experience instructing and managing external counsel across jurisdictions.

  • Strong commercial contract, facility, security, drafting, and negotiation, with a track record of templating and speeding up deal flow

  • Hands-on experience with GDPR and at least one of: DAC7 or platform tax reporting, consumer pricing and protection rules, travel or accommodation licensing

  • Experience with payments regulation, marketplace payment flows or PSD2

  • Experience running KYC or counterparty due diligence

  • Experience managing external counsel to a budget

  • Comfortable working alone as the only legal person, making risk calls and explaining them plainly to non-lawyers

  • Fluent written and spoken English

  • Confident using AI tools to speed up drafting, review and research, with good judgement on their limits

Nice to have

  • Early-stage or scale-up experience, ideally as first or sole legal hire

  • Knowledge of short-term rental regulation in key European destination markets

  • Familiarity with EU Package Travel and Linked Travel Arrangements rules

  • Familiarity with contract lifecycle tools (e.g. Ironclad, Juro, PandaDoc)

  • Portuguese, Italian or Spanish language. Good to have, not required.

How we work and what we offer

  • Fully remote, async-first team spread across Europe and beyond

  • Real ownership: you build the legal and compliance function from the ground up

  • Direct access to leadership and a seat in commercial conversations from day one

  • Paid time off with our Buenro rest week

Our Hiring Process:

  1. Fit Interview with Talent Lead

  2. Interview with Hiring Manager

  3. Live case study

  4. Follow-up Interview with team

  5. Final Interview with CEO

  6. References and Offer
