The Opportunity
Are you excited by creating spaces where people feel welcome, supported, and inspired? As a Library Experience Officer, you’ll be at the heart of Monash University Library. In this role, you will ensure our spaces remain safe, inclusive, and well-maintained while helping our community access physical and digital collections.
You’ll play a pivotal role in ensuring our library spaces are vibrant, inclusive, and running smoothly. From assisting a diverse community of students and researchers to facilitating engaging campus events and mentoring junior staff, your day-to-day work will directly impact student wellbeing and success.
What You’ll Be Doing
No two days are the same in this dynamic role. Your responsibilities will span across four key areas:
- Elevating the User Experience: Provide world-class customer service across physical and digital channels. You’ll facilitate events, contribute to programs that promote student belonging, and ensure the physical library collection is maintained and accessible.
- Creating Safe, Welcoming Spaces: Act as a custodian of our environment. You will be deeply involved in the day-to-day operational success of our library spaces. You will monitor building safety, manage space setups (including manual handling and furniture configuration), and use your training (First Aid/Mental Health First Aid/Warden) to look out for our community's wellbeing.
- Leading and Upskilling: Act as a guiding voice for Library Experience Assistants by providing daily operational direction. You'll share your knowledge, solve complex problems, and foster a solution-oriented team culture.
- Space improvements: Act as a facilitator for the productive use and improvement of Library spaces. Working closely with Library colleagues, you will focus on enabling Library space requests and providing support for event processes. You will act as the First Aid Coordinator, supporting operational oversight for Health Safety and Wellbeing communications, systems and compliance processes. Collaborating with colleagues and under the direction of the Services and Spaces leaders you will develop effective project-related communications to keep staff and stakeholders informed as our spaces evolve.
Who We Are Looking For
We’re looking for a proactive communicator who thrives in a collaborative, fast-paced environment. To be successful in this role, you’ll bring:
- The Right Qualifications: A Diploma in Library and/or Information Studies with relevant experience, OR an equivalent blend of experience and training.
- A Customer-First Mindset: A proven track record of delivering exceptional customer service to a diverse community. (Bonus points if you have experience in service design or UX!).
- Leadership and Team Spirit: Experience coordinating group activities, allocating tasks, and upskilling colleagues in a cross-skilled environment.
- Operational Know-how: A knack for problem-solving, attention to detail, and a solid understanding of workplace technology, metadata elements, and bibliographic description.
- Safety and Inclusivity Focus: A genuine commitment to diversity and inclusion, with the physical capability to handle event setups and the confidence to manage emergency procedures when required.
To support our service delivery needs, this role operates on a weekday rostered shift pattern between 7:45am and 6pm. Every day, your work will directly enhance the student experience, wellbeing, and success.
