Global Machine Operator Trainer

Location: Flexible (based anywhere in the world) | Extensive international travel | Reports to: Group Operations Management | Full-time

About the role

Alubend is an international group that bends, forms and fabricates aluminium and steel profiles, and also designs and builds its own bending machines. We’re looking for an expert bending machine operator to become our global operator trainer. You’ll travel between our four sites (USA, UK, Vietnam and UAE) to train and develop our operators and raise standards across the group. You’ll also support customers with machine training and commissioning in Asia, Europe, the Middle East and Canada, and occasionally further afield.

What you’ll do

Training our teams

• Train operators at all Alubend sites in machine setup, operation, advanced bending techniques and self-inspection
• Assess operator skills and sign off competence, then build development plans for each site
• Write and maintain training materials, setup sheets, standard operating procedures and best-practice guides
• Make sure every site follows the same methods, quality standards and safety practices
• Help with difficult jobs, first-off parts and problem-solving on the shop floor

Supporting customers

• Train customers’ operators on machines supplied by the group, both on site and remotely
• Support machine installation, commissioning and process trials at customer sites
• Demonstrate how to bend customer profiles and help develop their bending processes and tooling
• Report customer feedback and machine improvement ideas back to our engineering team

Hands-on expertise

• Set up and operate roll bending machines to bend steel and aluminum profiles, including:
• angles, channels, tees and beams
• flat bar
• tube, pipe and box section
• Set up the machine for structural bends, both easy-way and hard-way, and control twist, distortion and flange buckling
• Produce reverse-bend, S-curve, multi-radius and compound shapes accurately
• Use special tooling for hollow sections, such as mandrels, fillers and contoured rolls, to control ovality and wall collapse
• Read engineering drawings and inspect parts using templates, radius gauges, chord and rise checks and standard measuring tools

Essential

• At least 10 years’ experience as a bending machine operator with a leading bending company, UK, Netherlands or Poland.
• Expert knowledge of roll bending steel and aluminium profiles, including advanced and structural techniques
• Proven ability to train and coach other operators
• Fluent English, spoken and written
• Able to obtain visas / ESTA / ETA for all Alubend locations and for customer travel
• A full driving licence
• Willing to travel extensively and spend weeks away from home
• Confident, patient and professional with colleagues and customers from different cultures

Advantage

• Additional languages, such as Spanish, Vietnamese, German or Polish
• Experience with CNC roll bending, stretch forming, die bending or 3D bending machines
• Experience with special tooling for hollow sections
• Machine commissioning or field-service experience
• Knowledge of aluminum alloys and tempers
