Description

Gordon Brothers Marketplace (formerly Terra Point) is the premier marketplace for used transportation and construction equipment, combining more than 60 years of marketplace experience. We are part of Gordon Brothers, a global firm with more than 120 years of expertise in asset valuation, advisory, and disposition. We buy, value, and sell fleets of trucks, trailers, and equipment - and we are building out the operations side of our trading business.

Position Summary

We are hiring a Fleet Manager to join our trading operations team. This is not a “keep our own trucks running” role - it is an asset-expertise role. You will be the technical backbone of our fleet acquisition and disposition business: the person who reads a fleet the way a dealer reads a car. You will support our Head of Procurement on whole-fleet purchases, grade equipment condition, model reconditioning costs, and help turn purchased fleets into saleable, profitable inventory.

Why this role exists: we buy fleets from transportation companies. The people who know those fleets best are the fleet managers who ran them. We want one of those people on our side of the table - someone who has spent years making the buy / keep / replace decisions, owning the maintenance records, and knowing exactly which units are good and which are dogs.

Key Responsibilities

1. Pre-Purchase Technical Due Diligence

  • Conduct on-site condition inspections of candidate fleets (tractors, trailers, trucks, and equipment).
  • Review maintenance histories, service records, and warranty status; flag chronic-repair units and deferred maintenance.
  • Run VIN and history checks; identify title, lien, and documentation issues before commitment.
  • Estimate true condition versus the seller’s claims and document findings for the procurement team.

2. Whole-Fleet Acquisition Support

  • Tier candidate fleets into A / B / C condition groups to guide recovery strategy.
  • Build reconditioning-cost models: what it costs to bring each unit to marketable condition.
  • Provide condition-adjusted pricing input to the Head of Procurement for negotiation.
  • Identify which units are best sold retail, sold wholesale, or parted out / scrapped.

3. Valuation Support

  • Feed condition data into fleet appraisals and purchase-price decisions.
  • Maintain current knowledge of secondary-market pricing for used trucks, trailers, and equipment.
  • Advise on which specs and configurations hold resale value versus which are hard to move.

4. Reconditioning & Disposition

  • Own refurbishment triage: which units get reconditioned, to what standard, and at what cost.
  • Manage reconditioning vendors and shops - scope, quality, cost, and warranty enforcement.
  • Write credible condition reports and condition grades for listings.
  • Support staging, preparation, and sale-ready readiness of purchased inventory.

5. Compliance, Documentation & Market Knowledge

  • Ensure DOT / FMCSA compliance awareness in condition and saleability assessments.
  • Keep records audit-ready; manage title and documentation flow on purchased fleets.
  • Build and maintain relationships with fleets, dealers, shops, and remarketing channels.

Qualifications

Required

  • 5+ years managing a mid-size transportation fleet (trucks / trailers), with direct ownership of maintenance programs and asset lifecycle / replacement decisions.
  • Deep working knowledge of commercial truck and trailer equipment: specs, configurations, common failure points, and what drives used-market value.
  • Hands-on ability to assess condition: engine and hours, brakes, tires, frames, rust, and accident history.
  • Experience with preventive maintenance programs, repair-vs-replace analysis, and total-cost-of-ownership / cost-per-mile modeling.
  • Working knowledge of DOT / FMCSA compliance and inspection documentation.
  • Strong vendor and shop management with cost negotiation.
  • Ability to travel periodically for on-site fleet inspections.
  • Valid driver’s license (CDL preferred).

Preferred

  • Experience on the remarketing / secondary-market side (auction, dealer, wholesale) - or strong commercial instinct and a desire to move from cost-center to revenue-side work.
  • A network of relationships across fleets, dealers, and shops.
  • Experience with fleet management software (CMMS), telematics, and condition-reporting tools.
  • Familiarity with whole-fleet bulk transactions, appraisals, or asset disposition.

Competencies & Attributes

  • Commercial mindset: thinks in “recoverable value,” not “keep it running.”
  • Data-driven: makes and defends decisions from records and numbers.
  • Credibility: can walk into a fleet yard and earn the trust of operators and sellers.
  • Communication: translates technical findings into clear commercial terms for procurement, sales, and leadership.
  • Integrity: gives honest condition assessments even when it means losing a deal.

Why Join

  • Flip sides of the table: spend your career on the cost side of fleet assets, then make money with the same knowledge.
  • Be the expert: your judgment directly drives what we buy, what we pay, and what we sell.
  • Part of a 120+ year firm with a real marketplace platform behind you.
  • Room to build: this is a foundational hire - you will help shape the operations function as it grows.
