About the role


The Office of the Chief Investment Officer (OCIO) has the ultimate responsibility for all investments at OPTrust, overseeing all asset classes and investment activities across all teams in OPTrust’s Investment Division.


The Manager, Strategy, OCIO will support the CIO, and SEMDs in the day-to-day management of the Investment Division. The individual will play an important role in high-impact strategic projects, engagement with stakeholders on behalf of the CIO, and multi-dimensional responsibilities in the operations of the Investment Division.


What you’ll do


Coordination and Communication


  • Develop and facilitate Investment Division updates and communications for various internal and external stakeholders, including non-trustee materials, Total Fund initiatives, progress updates, and Board and Executive-level reporting.
  • Collaborate with and support our functional partners to ensure we make meaningful progress on our Total Fund initiatives and projects.
  • Partner collaboratively with internal stakeholders across the organization to implement corporate strategy and reinforce corporate values within the Investment Division.
  • Strategically develop and deliver internal and external stakeholder initiatives, including attending meetings as a CIO representative, preparing Executive Team meeting materials on topics such as AI within the Investment Division, objective setting and leadership priorities, and partnering with the People Team on divisional training and development sessions.
  • Develop and coordinate divisional town halls, CIO presentations, and leadership communications.
  • Lead the development of reporting materials and communications to support relevant investment operational discussions for any relevant Executive Team and Board of Trustee discussions, divisional business planning, and other divisional initiatives.
  • Support the Investment Division and collaborate with Public Affairs on issues management plans/processes, as required.

Change Management & Process Enhancement


  • Support the CIO and all related CIO functions to ensure the CIO is focused on operational and divisional strategic priorities including; (i) research; (ii) working with internal/external relationships and (iii) Ensuring strategic alignment across the division and fostering a unified approach to achieving organizational objectives.
  • Oversee planning and implementation for CIO-chaired committees, including the Total Portfolio Committees. Responsibilities include drafting agendas, drafting materials where required and reviewing full committee packages, working with the Investment Senior Leadership and the CIO to finalize materials. Lead and advise on special requests/projects as assigned, for example ad hoc requests from the Board or Executive Team.
  • Lead the annual business planning process for the Investment Division, including coordination of divisional objectives, divisional performance evaluations, divisional budget planning, and alignment with corporate priorities as well ongoing monitoring of progress.
  • Administer divisional talent and engagement initiatives. Maintain governance documentation for Investment Division committees, including annual reviews and updates of investment committee charters and guidelines, recurring governance requirements, and committee effectiveness activities.
  • Coordinate and monitor leadership decisions, action items, and CIO follow-ups arising from leadership, committee, and strategic planning meetings.
  • Serve as a central coordinator for strategic initiatives and cross-functional projects, tracking milestones, risks, decisions and outcomes to support successful execution across the Investment Division.

What you bring


  • Bachelor’s Degree and 5-10 years’ experience in a related field.
  • Detail-oriented, with experience supporting teams and balancing multiple complex tasks and priorities.
  • Experience working with senior level executives.
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills to compose a variety of correspondence and ensure accuracy of material.
  • Ability to analyze and conduct extensive research related to emerging issues. Proven research, analytical skills and ability to think strategically.
  • Self-motivated and able to work with minimum supervision, as well as a team player.
  • Demonstrated technical skills and proficiency with MS applications.
  • Demonstrated critical thinking, listening and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Effectively plans work through defining objectives and anticipating needs and priorities.
  • Highly professional and uses discretion to protect confidential materials.
  • Strong relationship management skills with a collaborative and innovative mindset.

The base salary range for this position ranges from $100,000 -$130,000.


The exact placement within the range will vary based on a variety of factors including: the candidate's knowledge, skills and experience relative to the requirements of the role, internal peers and the external market.
