The organization brings together archival cataloguing, TLA Magazine, book talks, literary events, and research activities. It also emphasizes student training and collaborative programs, offering opportunities for emerging and established voices to participate in a dynamic literary ecosystem.
Role Description The Managing Editor, TLA Magazine is a volunteer, remote role responsible for overseeing the editorial vision and day-to-day operations of the magazine. This includes planning editorial calendars, commissioning and reviewing submissions, coordinating with writers, editors, and designers, and ensuring content aligns with TLA’s mission and standards. The Managing Editor will edit and refine manuscripts, manage workflows and deadlines, and maintain consistent tone and quality across issues. The role also involves collaborating on digital publishing processes, contributing to outreach and public engagement initiatives, and providing guidance to volunteers or contributors associated with the magazine.

Qualifications
- Strong editorial and writing skills, including experience in substantive editing, copyediting, and proofreading.
- Background in literary publishing, magazines, or journals, with familiarity in managing submissions and editorial workflows.
- Ability to plan and execute editorial strategy, including content planning, scheduling, and coordination with contributors.
- Comfort with digital tools for remote collaboration, document management, and online publishing platforms.
- Knowledge of contemporary and historical literature, and interest in archives, memory studies, and cultural discourse.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to meet deadlines and oversee multiple projects.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with a collaborative approach to working with diverse teams and contributors.
- Prior experience in a managing editor or similar editorial leadership role is beneficial; degree in literature, publishing, journalism, or related field is an asset but not required.
