Marketing Performance Manager
Food Label MakerMarketing Performance Manager
Reports to: COO
Location: Remote
Compensation: Competitive, commensurate with proven in-house GAds ownership at $20K+/mo spend — discussed in first screening call
About the role
We're a fast-growing B2B SaaS company spending ~$30K/month on Google Ads and Bing Ads, currently managed by an external agency. We're bringing this in-house and looking for someone who can own it end-to-end from day one — not manage it alongside an agency, not learn on the job. You'll have full autonomy over campaign strategy and execution, and you'll be expected to bring independent judgment, not wait for direction on tactics. You'll report directly to the COO.
This is not a generalist marketing role. It's a specialist paid search seat with a strong secondary analytics/CRO responsibility.
What you'll own
Paid Search (primary — this is 80% of the job)
- Full day-to-day management of Google Ads and Bing Ads across Search, Shopping, and Performance Max
- Keyword research, expansion, and match type strategy; ongoing negative keyword hygiene
- Bid strategy management, including transitions between manual and automated bidding
- Ad copy creation and testing
- Quality score and account health management
- Budget allocation and pacing across campaigns
- Building and defending your own CAC/ROAS targets — you'll own a number, not just a task list
- Laying the groundwork to expand paid search into UK, Australia, and EU markets over time, once US/Canada performance is stable in your hands
Analytics & Conversion Optimization (secondary — real weight, not an afterthought)
- Building and monitoring acquisition funnels in Mixpanel
- Using Hotjar/Clarity to diagnose landing page and user flow issues
- Designing and running A/B tests (you won't build landing pages — our content team does — but you'll define, execute, and read the results of tests on them)
- Closing the loop: translating what you find in analytics into actual changes in the ad accounts
Channel exploration (smaller scope, ongoing)
- Scoping and pilot-testing other channels (social, referral, other paid/organic) as time allows
- We're not expecting you to run these at scale immediately — we want someone who can propose a pilot and tell us honestly whether it's worth scaling
What you need to bring
- 5+ years of hands-on, in-house or freelance ownership of Google Ads accounts at $20-50K+/month spend — not agency portfolio management across many smaller accounts. You should be able to speak in detail about one account you personally ran, what you changed, and what happened to the numbers as a result.
- Working knowledge of Bing Ads
- Real experience with Mixpanel or comparable product analytics — building funnels and cohort views, not just checking pageviews
- Experience with Hotjar or Clarity for session recordings and heatmaps
- Experience designing and running A/B tests, with a working understanding of when a result is actually significant versus noise
- Comfortable using AI tools to speed up your own work — for example, generating ad copy variants faster, automating reporting, or flagging anomalies in spend or performance. We're not expecting agent-building or engineering; we are expecting you to already be using AI day-to-day rather than doing everything manually.
- Strong written English — you'll be reporting directly to a COO who is not a performance marketing specialist, so you need to explain what's happening and why in plain terms, not jargon
- Full ownership mentality: this is a self-directed role. You'll get context and targets, not a task list.
What we're not looking for
- Someone whose GAds experience is spread thin across many small client accounts with no single account of meaningful size
- Someone who oversells breadth (paid social, SEO, email, everything) at the expense of GAds depth — this role exists because GAds is 90% of our spend
- Someone waiting to be told what to do — this role has real autonomy and requires real judgment
Screening process
You'll be asked to complete a short practical exercise involving a real (anonymized) or sample account audit, followed by an interview focused on specific past decisions you made in a GAds account — not general knowledge questions.
