Who We Are:

The Modern Classrooms Project is a fast-growing 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that empowers educators to build classrooms that respond to every student’s needs. Founded by two award-winning teachers, we lead a movement of educators in implementing a self-paced, mastery-based instructional model that leverages technology to foster human connection, authentic learning, and social-emotional growth.

To date, we have reached over 80,000 teachers through our free online course and 20,000+ teachers through our Virtual Mentorship Program. We serve educators all around the world, and support over 200 school, district, and state partners nationwide. We are an ambitious, idealistic team led by former classroom teachers, and we are passionate about what we do.

Why We Need You:

Our model and the training we offer are designed to empower educators teaching any subject or grade level, in any school, anywhere in the world. We’ve seen everyone from pre-K teachers to law professors implement it effectively. If an educator believes our model will work for their learners, we know it will.

We’ve always had, however, a special relationship with math. Our co-founders initially developed our model as high-school math teachers, some of our most effective implementers are math teachers, and there’s a natural alignment between a mastery-based approach and the way that math knowledge builds on itself. There’s also a huge need for effective instruction in math - and schools and districts across the country who are eager for math pedagogy that really works.

With this in mind, the MCP team is innovating on how we can create a better planning and teaching experience for math educators and a better learning experience for math students. This is where you come in! We need you to manage the implementation of several exciting new math initiatives, including the adaptation of high-quality math instructional materials into a format that facilitates blended, self-paced, mastery-based instruction.

We want it to be easy for any math educator to meet every learner's needs. You’ll help make that happen.

What You’ll Do:

The Math Curriculum Development Manager will support the design, creation, and improvement of classroom-ready materials that help teachers meet their learners’ needs. The Manager will help MCP shape the future of math education in our partner districts and beyond.

The Manager will also support Modern Classrooms Project’s standards work: teacher-facing resources that unpack state math standards into plain language. While different work, this calls for the same care: reading a standard closely, saying clearly what it asks of students, and building materials a teacher can use immediately.

This position requires excellent project management and communication skills, as well as a passion for the pedagogy of mathematics. The Manager will work on the Content Production team, reporting to the Director of Customized Curriculum Solutions.

Please note: This is a grant-funded position with an anticipated one-year term from the hire date. As with any grant-funded role, continuation beyond that period, or a change to the timeline, depends on the availability of continued grant funding. We’ll communicate with the person in this role as early as possible if funding plans change.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Adapting existing math curricula to fit the MCP model.
  • Supporting standards work for state math standards, including reviewing content.
  • Reviewing and providing feedback on curriculum and standards resources with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Preparing and distributing high-quality curricular resources across multiple platforms, including Google Drive.
  • Drafting materials with artificial intelligence (AI) tools and reviewing AI-generated content for accuracy and standards alignment.
  • Collaborating with the Success, Partnership, and Research teams to ensure excellent materials for math educators.
  • Managing additional math-related projects as needed.

What We’re Looking For:

  • Thorough knowledge of math curriculum (e.g., Savvas, Illustrative Mathematics, Bluebonnet) and pedagogy at the secondary level.
  • Comfort reading and unpacking state math standards and translating them into teacher-friendly language
  • Experience teaching secondary (grades 6-12) math in a traditional classroom setting (Modern Classroom implementation preferred).
  • Experience developing curriculum-related materials in a full-time or contract-based capacity.
  • Experience using AI in workflows, using a critical eye to review AI-generated work.
  • Demonstrated exceptional communication and collaboration abilities.
  • Comfort with remote work in a dynamic, start-up environment.
  • General knowledge of Google Suite tools, especially Google Slides & Google Sheets.
  • Self-starter who can work independently and think on their feet.
  • Passionate about making the world a better place, particularly through education.

Compensation and Benefits

We aim to offer a competitive compensation package, as well as the opportunity to work in a fast-growing nonprofit that is on a mission to improve education worldwide. This includes:

  • Salaried position: $80,000 - $90,000 salary per year
  • Employer-sponsored health insurance through CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield
  • Participation in Vanguard 403(b) deferred-compensation plan with 3% employer match
  • Paid Time Off, inclusive of: vacation/PTO (20 days annually), paid holidays, paid parental leave, sick and safe paid time off, "Me Days", and the ability to earn paid Comp time off
  • Annual budget for MCP-funded Continuous Learning for the program(s) you request (available after 6 months of continuous full-time employment)
  • FSA and Dependent Care FSA access
  • 1x Salary Life Insurance company-paid coverage
  • Access to Wishbone Pet Insurance Benefit
  • Ability to work remotely and to set own hours (within reason)
