About us

Spore.Bio is a deeptech startup born in 2023, building a new paradigm in quality control systems for Food & Beverage, Cosmetics, and Pharmaceutical factories. After spending a lot of time in factory environments, we saw the pain it was to make sure products were safe. Traditional quality control has heavy constraints and long waiting times. To change that, we decided to build Spore.Bio, a new generation of microbiological testing. Our team is dedicated to developing a cutting-edge solution, based on advanced photonic and deep-learning technologies, to detect bacterial contamination within minutes.

About the role

Ready to revolutionize industrial microbiology?

At Spore.Bio, we're looking for a Mechanical Engineer Intern to join our Hardware team. Working closely with the R&D team, you'll contribute to the design, prototyping, testing, and improvement of our breakthrough devices.

This is a hands-on role where you'll work on real engineering challenges, from CAD design and prototyping to hardware testing and data analysis, while learning how a deeptech product is developed in a fast-moving startup environment.

What You Will Do

  • You'll contribute to the mechanical design of our devices: creating and modifying CAD models, designing mechanical parts, and supporting design iterations.

  • You'll build and test prototypes using 3D printing, machining, and other prototyping methods, and help identify and solve hardware issues.

  • You'll support the integration of mechanical and optical components, working closely with the hardware and R&D teams to understand and address system-level constraints.

  • You'll conduct experiments and hardware tests, collect data, and analyze results to support engineering decisions and product improvements.

  • You'll work closely with multidisciplinary teams, including mechanical, optical, software, and microbiology teams, to develop and validate new hardware solutions.

  • You'll contribute to technical documentation, test procedures, and design records, helping us structure our engineering methods as the product evolves.

About you

  • Currently pursuing or recently completed a degree in mechanical engineering or a related field, such as mechatronics, engineering mechanics, etc.

  • Comfortable with CAD tools and interested in developing your mechanical design skills.

  • Curious about manufacturing and prototyping technologies such as 3D printing, machining, and injection molding.

  • Analytical and hands-on, with an interest in understanding how hardware works and how to improve it.

  • Comfortable working with experiments, measurements, and data, and willing to learn new tools and methods.

  • Autonomous and proactive, while knowing when to ask questions and seek input from others.

  • Good communication skills and comfortable working in English.

  • Curious and enthusiastic about working in a multidisciplinary environment combining mechanical engineering, optics, electronics, software, microbiology, and AI.

Why Join Spore Bio

  • Be part of an innovative and rapidly growing startup at the intersection of biotech, photonics, and AI.

  • Work on exciting, impactful projects that address global challenges.

  • Evolve in a collaborative, stimulating environment with plenty of hands-on work and autonomy.

  • Learn from experienced engineers and scientists while contributing to real products and experiments.

  • Enjoy opportunities for professional growth and continuous training.

  • Benefits: Meal vouchers, Gymlib access, and a great team spirit!

What we offer

We believe that flexibility and trust are important parts of a company. Our work environment reflects this:

  • Gymlib subscription to stay in shape wherever you are.

  • Swile card for your meals, if you are based in France.

Location: Paris, on-site.

Our Recruitment Process

  1. Introduction call with HR

  2. Technical fit Interview: A casual call to get to know each other, explore your experience, understand what drives you, and align on expectations. It's also your chance to ask anything about Spore Bio and the internship.

  3. On-site Interview & Lab Visit: A visit to our Paris headquarters where you'll discover the optics lab and assembly area, see our systems in action, and meet the team. This is also your opportunity to discover what working at Spore Bio is really like.

This is a great opportunity for someone who wants to develop their mechanical engineering skills, work on real-world hardware challenges, and discover how innovative products are developed in a dynamic deeptech startup.
