Job title: Microsoft Copilot Studio Developer / AI Specialist
Employment arrangement: Full-time, offshore remote position supporting a U.S. based organization headquartered in California.
Department: Information Technology
Reporting relationship: Offshore delivery manager, with day-to-day technical direction from IT Manager.
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM Pacific Time, adjusting for U.S. daylight saving time.
Opportunity
We are an offshore services provider seeking a skilled Microsoft Copilot Studio Developer / AI Specialist.
The successful candidate will design, build, deploy, and maintain custom conversational agents and AI automations within the Microsoft 365, Power Platform, and Azure ecosystems. The position requires hands-on development, not simply experience using Microsoft 365 Copilot or writing prompts.
Working closely with IT and departmental stakeholders, this person will translate operational needs into secure, practical solutions that reduce manual work, improve access to approved information, and streamline internal processes. Initial priorities will build on the existing automation scope: purchase orders, finance requests, IT access requests, and employee onboarding.
Copilot Studio Agent Design & Development
- Design, build, test, and publish custom agents in Microsoft Copilot Studio for high-volume internal use cases, such as an IT Help Desk agent, an HR & Onboarding agent, a Finance & Purchasing agent, and a Facilities request agent.
- Build agent topics, trigger phrases, entities, slot filling, variables, and adaptive cards; use generative answers and generative orchestration where appropriate.
- Ground agents in approved knowledge sources, including SharePoint sites, policy and procedure libraries, OneDrive files, and Dataverse tables, with clear citations back to the source document.
- Deploy agents to Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, and the Microsoft 365 Copilot experience; extend Microsoft 365 Copilot with declarative agents and plugins/connectors.
- Design graceful fallback and human handoff paths, routing unresolved conversations to the ticketing system, a Teams channel, or a live staff member with full conversation context.
- Write and maintain agent instructions and prompts; iterate on agent behavior using test sets, conversation transcripts, and user feedback.
Power Platform & Low-Code AI Automation
- Connect Copilot Studio agents to Power Automate cloud flows so agents can take action: submit Purchase Orders, check request status, create IT Access Requests, log Facilities work orders, and kick off Employee Onboarding.
- Extend existing Microsoft Forms and Power Automate approval workflows with AI, for example summarizing requests for approvers, classifying and routing submissions, and drafting notifications.
- Use AI Builder for document processing (invoices, receipts, credit card statements), text classification, and data extraction to reduce manual data entry and support expense and credit card reconciliation.
- Create custom connectors to integrate agents with the organization's line-of-business tools, including the work management platform, ticketing system, and asset tracking/inventory system.
- Monitor, troubleshoot, and optimize agents and flows for reliability, performance, and licensing/capacity consumption.
Azure AI & Data Integration
- Extend Copilot Studio agents with Azure services when low-code features are not enough, including Azure OpenAI Service (via Azure AI Foundry), Azure AI Search for retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and Azure Functions or Logic Apps for custom actions.
- Prepare and maintain knowledge content for AI grounding: clean up SharePoint libraries, apply metadata, retire outdated documents, and work with content owners to keep sources accurate.
- Use Application Insights and Copilot Studio analytics to report on agent usage, resolution rates, deflected tickets, and estimated hours saved.
Governance, Security & Responsible AI
- Adhere to IT security policies and data handling standards, including HIPAA and California privacy requirements for protected health information (PHI) and personally identifiable information (PII).
- Ensure agents never expose client records, case notes, or clinical data unless explicitly approved, scoped, and secured by IT leadership and the appropriate program owners.
- Use Microsoft Purview sensitivity labels, Entra ID access controls, and audit logging to protect sensitive content used by agents.
- Follow responsible AI practices: test for accuracy, harmful or biased output, and prompt injection; configure content moderation; and clearly disclose to users when they are interacting with an AI agent.
- Maintain an inventory of all active agents, flows, connectors, and knowledge sources, including owners, version history, and change logs.
Support, Training & Continuous Improvement
- Partner with department leaders to identify, document, and prioritize AI and automation opportunities, documenting current-state processes and recommending future-state solutions with expected time savings.
- Provide Tier 2/Tier 3 support for Copilot Studio agents, Microsoft 365 Copilot, Power Automate, and related O365 applications for remote users.
- Train end users and IT staff on new agents and Microsoft 365 Copilot features; create user guides, quick-reference sheets, and short video walkthroughs.
- Create technical documentation for every agent and flow: architecture, knowledge sources, topics, connectors, permissions, and support runbooks.
Qualifications
- Strong English proficiency (C2 level) with clear spoken and written communication; able to explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- 3+ years of hands-on experience building and deploying conversational agents in Microsoft Copilot Studio (or its predecessor, Power Virtual Agents) in a production environment.
- 5+ years of experience working with the Microsoft 365 suite, including SharePoint Online, Teams, Outlook, OneDrive, and Microsoft Forms.
- Highly proactive, self-directed, and able to work independently in a remote environment.
- Preferred, not required. Background in healthcare or nonprofit environments, particularly behavioral health, or familiarity with Electronic Health Records (EHR) and HIPAA.
